Trying to get people out to the pubs again after Covid.

The decline is invevitable Younger kids are not interested in pubs or even in drinking in the same way as previous generations. I have an 18 year daughter and she and her friends hardly ever go to pubs and to be honest I think that's a good thing.

Yes. If it's in a place that treats its staff like rubbish, that is damaging a traditi8nal English way of life and is killing small business. Absolutely yes. Some of us have morals
Classic ST, should have guessed.

So the two old pensioner pals, living off a state pension, with no close family who meet up a couple of times a week at their local wetherspoons to chat and combat loneliness have no morals?

id sooner sit in somewhere like a wethspoons pub and pay a sensible price for a beer,as opposed to a so called trendy bar that charges 5 quid a pint,as i think most people would, wetherspoons are doing something right as they get plenty of customers, too much snobbery on here

Pretty much yes, if they can choose any other pub. With decency.

Typical snidey @Randy trick thay. Create a fictional scenario so you can only answer one way. Really scummy behaviour.

The fact is most spoons customers can afford to go elsewhere but they eschew morals and decency to save a few pennies on a pint. Really crap behaviour

It’s a real tough one, if people don’t use their local businesses they can only survive so long but can peoples morals really stand up to it when for some it will be a choice of a cheap meal in Spoons or nothing when money is so tight.
Sadly I can see the bigger places thriving because of this with the smaller businesses left behind because they just can’t compete

I dunno, I feel like it’s a bit mad to be expecting everyone to go pay more for a pint when people are struggling big time with increases in fuel, energy bills, NI etc.

This post really shows a deep lack of social empathy and intelligence.

Who are you calling a scumbag from behind your iMac? Have a look in any wetherspoons throughout the day and you'll find plenty of old folk in there catching up either over a coffee or a pint and a hot meal, potentially their best hot cooked meal of the week. Fictional scenario? It is not.

Believe it or not fella but not everybody can afford to sup pints of moretti and eat mussels and steak every week/month.

I have absolutely no issue with wetherspoons operating how they do and I say that as a man who works in a pub that charges £4.20 for a pint of John Smith's Smooth as per instruction of the brewery the pub is tied too. Could the staff be paid more? Absolutely. But you can say that about s mutlitude of hospitality businesses. Is the owner of Wetherspoons a prat? Yes he is. But again I don't believe the two old gents catching up over a pint and a game of dominoes gives two *****.

I'm not a fan of JD Wetherspoon myself but they appeal to a wider cross section of the population than many town centre pubs. There's no music, no TV, reasonably priced food and drink. They haven't turned their back on the older generation.

The owner may be a tw@t but he'll not be alone amongst the pub owning fraternity.

If I'm not allowed to go to 'spoons because of the owner then does that mean I somehow need to vet the owners of any pub I might fancy a beer in just to check they aren't a ****

Any advice much appreciated 😁

We were in Spoons in Peterborough, drinking £1.99 Bud Light, nowt wrong with it, we use them all over for the away games, keeps the price down.
Never underestimate the snobbishness on here, there is not a single thing ordinary people do that is not laughed at. I go in the Pig Iron before and after games, you would of thought I admitted to being a lifelong Sunderland dan.

You will have seen me in there every other Saturday SAB 👍

I’m a Barracuda man myself, £1.90 for a pint of Free Port, locally brewed lager…..👍
