Tommy Smith injury, not good news.

Dijksteel for me as well.

I do think he would be better going forward alongside Crooks / Jones, although VDB probably edges it Defensively.

That is the second of our players with a bad injury, where we haven't had a free kick or punishment of any kind.Yet yesterday is seemed like their players where dropping like flies everytime we attacked one of their players was having a lie down.I wonder if their no23 had an inner ear problem he spent the whole second half on his ****.
Smith was not tackled when he went down. It look like he twisted his knee at the time.

Why did he hobble off instead of going off on a stretcher.
also.. stretchers.. when all the footballers turn up to the games in their fancy Mercedes or their tripped out land rovers.. why don't they chip in for a fuggin golf buggy to drive them off the pitch if they get injured.

is it really the best way to get a player off the pitch for treatment? we're talking hundreds of millions of pounds here.. no one fancy having a speedy golf cart to whisk them off to an ambulance should they be unfortunate enough to be injured?

Could you walk off the pitch and all round the cinder track to the dressing rooms with a ruptured achilles. he's a tough lad is Tommy, but that would be some effort.
i've done it.. it hadn't snapped.. just felt like burning.. i got told it it sometimes better for it to snap entirely to be repaired rather than a tear.. anyway.. still looks fooked on me

Why would there have been a free kick or punishment for an injury that wasn't caused by the opposition?

I was judging a British champs when one went - the lad was writhing instantly and was transferred to Coventry overnight and put back together the following am by top surgeon. Never quite got back to top level.

I'd assumed that as Smith was walking it was decent news - maybe I'm wrong

A returning Dijksteel together with that understanding that Crooks and Jones clearly have could cause most opposition sides to have a really hard 90 minutes

Could be ADS`s opportunity to do a good job.
Carrick says he doesnt accept that players "step up" - because he treats them all with the respect and has confidence they can all do the job when required. (y)

VDB was in possession of the Jersey as our form first turned around.

Only lost his place because of injury - I would be giving him the initial opportunity.

Maybe an opportunity for Darragh to come back in with Paddy moved to right back, either way we have options although a definite blow losing Smith,he's a very underrated member of our team.

If it was ruptured you probably would be able to tell straight away. One of my mates ruptured his playing 5 a side. He was running with the ball and then suddenly said "who kicked me?" with nobody in sight. When I felt the tendon it wasn't there and I said straight away, "that's snapped mate".

When Aaron Rodgers did his in the first game of the season, he walked off under his own steam. If you look at the replay you can actually see the tendon fly up his leg when it happens.

Remember Gary Penrice of QPR going down in a heap right in front of me at Ayresome. Trainer came on, wiped him down, told him to get up and try to run it off. Lasted about a minute. Turned out he'd got a broken leg as well.

No, definitely not. We have better options for right back than Paddy and besides he's doing a good job at left centre back.

I'd be a little surprised with that.

He was walking on to the pitch at the end of the match with a large ice pack strapped to the side of his ankle.

I'd be amazed if he was doing that (or was able to do that) with a ruptured Achilles.
I ruptured my achilles once. If it is a clean break there is no way he could walk on it. It could be a partial rupture in which case there is some hope but I reckon he would be out for a long time.
