Today's Ref

Another week goes by, another massive endorsement for the use of VAR in the championship.
I’m not a huge supporter of VAR but in light of what we saw today having a situation with offside goal it would make perfect sense. I would be in favour of having a modified version of VAR whereby a team could maybe challenge calls (maximum of two) on the field) — similar to the NFL?

The officials are pure fog eggs in the Championship.. it’s a great league.. but the officials make it.. turd

Was infuriating how he seemed to blow for a foul every time one of their players fell to the ground.

I couldn't understand why he stopped play during the 1st half when one of their players was down as well. I didn't think it was a head injury?
My assumption was that he didn’t see him go down, still didn’t know he was down while play had continued, then papped himself when he realised in case he’d missed a head injury

We've had some poor refs this season but this is the only referee who I can say affected the outcome of the game. The foul on Jones that went unpunished allowed Hugill to wander the field fouling at will all game. The foul on Greenwood was a penalty and a yellow. Difficult to be sure but I think Hugill is offside for their goal. The list is extensive. My impression was he had been criticised for being a "homer" previously and was over compensating. It wasn't just the ref the two linos were no better.

I remain however against the use of VAR

Agreed a terrible refereeing performance for the reasons mentioned although nobody can say with complete assertion that was offside from the above pic. You can see why Hugill was given the benefit of the doubt.

Surely if you’re not 100% sure you can’t disallow the goal.
If the referee can just watch a player basically assault another as what happened with Jones and do nothing about it he can’t be trusted with more subtle interpretations of game events.

We just have to get over it now, as do the team concentrate on Tuesday and just look out with dread in the future for Mr Bond’s name.

Perhaps we should all attend the next time he shows up at the Riverside with a white cat, some fiendish plans to do him in,that are over complicated and ultimately backfire.

The decision for the foul by the keeper on Rogers was unbelievable.
Rogers clearly played the ball out of play as the keeper went straight through the back of him.
The only decision it couldn't have been was a Boro throw in, it had to be either a Rotherham throw in or Boro free kick.
Should also have been a definite yellow card as well by the way, at the very least.
What decision did we get a Boro throw in.
Blatant cheating in my opinion not just an error.

Just watched the 10 minutes highlights on MFC.com and Crooks looks onside in the slow-mo of the disallowed goal. Hugill looks offside in the build up to their goal and how the drag down on Greenwood is NOT a penalty I cannot fathom. If any one of those three decisions was correct we win. They don't show the foul on Rogers by the keeper but young Millsy above summarises how I saw it.

I hope someone at MFC has a word with the referee assessor because that was just apalling incompetence. Everyone makes mistakes but four or five major mistakes in one game? Not good enough.

I'm not one of these who usually sits and slates the ref after each game, as people tend to just think decisions go against them.

However yesterday was appalling, there was 3 or 4 BIG decisions that went against us. The offside for their goal not given, and from the slow mo replays on our goal it appears onside.

I was in the south stand and it seemed a blatant penalty on Forss and also Greenwood!

There was even one in the second half I believe it was where Hackney was grabbed round the neck and flung to the floor and he waved play on.

As for this evening themselves out bollox it’s just an excuse to put up with inept bordering on corrupt officials.

Some of the decisions I’ve seen this season defy belief.

As I said before I’ve gave up shouting for a pen now as we never get them.
