I know it's probably unlikely but if something good can come from this, can it please be that after spending years trying to isolate ourselves from our European friend and partners that a new age of mutual trust and respect can begin.

I'm not talking about rejoining the EU simply hoping that a sad event that had brought kind words from around the world can be built upon and that the post-EU era of modern Britain is led by grown ups, being respectful and friendly to one another.

Indeed. I find it reassuring that, despite some of our politicians, and particularly the present government, other countries know that we are not all like that. President Macron's dignified words a couple of days ago contrasted sharply with those of Truss, in particular, about him and France not so long ago.
