These Coronavirus figures

The virus seems to be following the same course everywhere it has occurred, with the exception of Japan on the face of it. So we really should expect some large issues here.

Japan might be explained by the low testing, although they do have a population that is used to handling flu outbreaks, wearing masks etc. They are quite different socially to other countries and I think they have a much different healthcare system.

TBH I'd expect a country like Japan to be ripe for an outbreak - so congested. Masks only help stop those with the virus from spreading it in the air.

It's the number of people with it now - possibly kids who may not even show any symptoms - passing it on that will create the spike, they reckon next 2 weeks will be our peak... lets hope for a hot spell..

That's reassuring. Not really. That's why they are already hinting at binning us old ones should they need to prioritise the beds.

I spent 8 hours in a heaving A&E on Sunday with my dad. They sent him home, basically because there just weren't enough spare beds. Rushed back in this afternoon.

Can't blame the staff. This is the inevitable consequences of 10 years of chronic under funding. It might be able to cope for a limited period, it might be able to cope in an emergency situation, but when it has been coping for a decade it's too long, then when a crisis hits, the resources aren't there and the staff have no reserves left to call on for the short term boost that is required.

Tories will claim any difficulties we get into will be because of the unusual situation, a global pandemic. This will be true of course, but it is not the full picture.

All guesswork, from the government of each country downwards. Nobody knows how widespread it is. People with it in this country may be out and about with few or no symptoms but still passing it on.

When is the next stage of isolation to be implemented, at the end of the school term to minimise disruption?

The government haven't a clue about how to respond. We're a ten bob Tory nation, know the price of everything and the value of very little. We have a bloke in charge of the country who, in the eyes of a senior colleague, couldn't run a whelk stall.

It's fingers crossed time. Four decades of under development have left the NHS in permanent crisis mode.

The maths on your attached chart on this post make no sense .. take a calculator out and do the numbers.

The figures in the chart seem OK to me. Which bit didn't you think was right?

(Divide population by number of tests to give a (test per capita figure). Then divide a million by test per capita figure to get test per mill of population).

“We have a bloke in charge of the country who, in the eyes of a senior colleague, couldn't run a whelk stall” - now come on that’s a bit harsh....... on whelk stall holders 🤣

I was reading a Chinese doctors report (Reddit) that inferred the virus would have no more than a -0.5% roll off for seasonal weather adjustment

It's in here somewhere but was maybe a day or two back - can't find it just now but will look again.
