The weekend beer and music thread

Evening folks, hope all is well with everyone... big game coming up tomorrow against Plymouth and they seem to be faltering a little of late so let's hope we can pick up three points to lift us a place or two in the table. Also have the 20 years later celebration to look forward to this Thursday which I'm looking forward to! All in, hopefully a cracking week coming up.

To get us started with a beer I discovered a new blonde ale this week on a trip to Edinburgh with Mrs WG. Generally speaking I tend to prefer darker beers but this was a real pleasing drink so indulged in a few over the couple of days we were there. I'd highly recommend it, its a lovely drink.

You can never go wrong with a classic band and so here's some Led Zeppelin to get us underway with the music...

My usual Sauv b, Tescos finest. Spent the last few weeks studying for my sailing exams (theory & chartwork not the practical). Did my last exam this aft, feel very confident I’ve passed, passed the others. Off to Lanza tomorrow after the match so I’ll arrange the practical exams while I’m there (a week at sea in the Atlantic, what’s not to like!)

Anyway, may have put this music up here before, but as I’ve been immersed in all thing nautical it seems appropriate - plus she’s away for the night so I can turn it up to 11.

That sounds brilliant, how long did it take you to do that?

I’ve been sailing on and off for a few years, but just odd trips, decided to take it seriously during pandemic. Been studying the theory seriously for about six months. Passed the general exam last week and did the chartwork one today - will find out in a day or two, but it went well.

I’ve found it fascinating, very wide range of stuff from meteorology, passage planning, pilotage, tidal heights, streams, safety, collision regs etc etc. I’ve passed the practical before, but it doesn’t ’count’ until you’ve passed the theory first.

Come down with some sort of horrible throat infection so just hot coffee for me (instant coffee at that 😳) because the heat seems to help with the pain. Anyone got any remedies for a temperature and a razor blade throat I'd be grateful as I have to be at the airport at 7.30 tomorrow morning to take 25 high school kids on a ski trip to Japan. Sounds glam but right now a 13 hour flight in economy, a 15 hour time shift and a night without sleep aren't appealing in the slightest 😂

I'm sure I'll enjoy it when I start to feel better.

Anyway, the new Middle Kids album came out this week so have a listen to the opening track on me.

I'm sure you will feel better when you get your ski's on.

What course are you doing? One for ocean going skipper? Or ICC?
I fancy going to Greece to do my ICC (on a RYA course).

Where do you sail out of?

A guy I used to work with sailed out of Whitby. They would regularly run up the coast to Northumberland and then head back again. He was trying to get me to go out with him, he said they like bodies on the boat for ballast.

No the Yachtmaster one is next, but I want to have a bit of fun with it first. There’s a 12 day ‘mile builder’ trip round all the Canaries I fancy, then I’ll get my head back down and study for the yachtmaster.

The RYA are brilliant.

Bo11ocks to that, far too cold 😂. Because I spend so much time in Lanzarote I sail there, big seas, lots of wind but shorts and tee shirts and sun.

Villa Maria for me this evening - a bit peeved as we were supposed to go to a wedding darn sarf but I've been laid up for 3 days with some variant of a virus - not covid as both tests negative - but something that feels very close indeed. Still a bit off it but a couple of glasses of vino can't hurt.

Anyway...here's to the weekend...
