The Unravelling of America

Excellent article, I'll look for Rolling Stone in the future. One point not made on the " handing over of world power" from Britain to the USA was that this was the first ( and i worry, the !ast)time in history that a change in regional or world super power has occurred without the ceding power doing so after complete military defeat and it's accompanying destruction.

The whole point is that empires slowly decline and decay. Military defeats happen but they don't cause the end of empires. Portugal and Spain didn't decline because of military defeats, just because the world moved on. Same with Britain.

A long an very interesting read, so much similarity to what's happening in the UK with our leadership and how unfortunately we function as a society.

If this kind of thing interests anyone, there is a podcast by Paul Cooper called Fall of Civilizations. They are long but interesting.

There are about a dozen so far including Roman Britain, the Sumerians, Aztecs, Mayans, Khmer Empire, Han dynasty and Byzantium.

It's on You tube too I've just noticed.

When you think, the world has changed, been destabilised, whole nations incapacitated etc and not a single shot has been fired....

Makes you wonder what our 4 Trident submarines and 2 shiny new aircraft carriers are for, even when they get their F35s. Maybe the shiny new submarines will be better for stopping dinghies.

Yup. Who needs nukes, subs, choppers, arms that can blow your head off from ten miles away when you can 'create' or stumble over the deadliest, most dangerous weapon in a lab!

Expands on my "United ******** of America" thread from months ago by adding in a bit of global politics ;)
Can't argue with any of it though and I just wish a good few over here would read it, comprehend it and use it as an inspiration to study the benefits of a host of socially democratic nations where high tax revenues and socialist ideals provide better living standards for most.

That's a brilliant article and captures the age of American Neoliberalism very well.
