Indeed. Carrick probably feels that having an experienced head who can slot in at RB, CB, CM, probably wherever is pretty invaluable.

Carrick's repeated a number of times that we need a balance between young prospects and experienced players. We need to hold onto McNair in my opinion.

Bradford Park Avenue play up near Low Moor. Quite a way from the city centre.
Traditionally, however they played at the top of Morley Street which is very much old fashioned Bradford. I don't ever remember Manningham being separate but I don't go back beyond the 1960s

More or less when the Kashmir arrived in the basement under the veg shop and the Travel agent - the origin of the bus to Pakistan tales

I love the run-up to the start of a new season. It helps you identify which posters are going to be on which players backs. It's a time for some to nail their colours to the mast and no amount of MoM awards will change their opinion, because..... well because they were right all along and heaven forbid their initial judgement is wrong.

Anyway, can't wait for the season to begin and watch all the crap players we have, who shouldn't be anywhere near the starting 11, develop and grow as a team. Maybe we finish top 2, maybe top 6, maybe mid-table. I'll enjoy the journey as I do every season, with just one or two exceptions. You guessed correctly, Warnock and Pulis.

Spoiler alert @Laughing you won't enjoy it if we finish mid table.

Depends how we play. If we don't get promoted... I'd rather finish mid-table with a season of exciting football, than finish 3rd, lose the play-offs, but play boring 1-0 football all season. The end result/starting position next season is exactly the same.

I will Alvez, footie aint about winning, it's about a shared emotional attachments, a family, if you will. You're wife doesn't have to be the best looking woman for you to love her with all your heart, nor do your kids (just as well, mine are an ugly bunch, but I blame that on their mother).

The young lads that people are moaning about as not good enough, we get to see them grow and improve. We see the bonds between these young men grow stronger as the season progressess.

We get to fight and argue whether McNair really is **** or a great proffessional who will run through brick walls for the fans.

We get to read Roofie's match day thread, and from a personal point of view, I get to call him old man.

We will get some drama, some world class goals, we will get new music for a new hero, we will hug men we don't know in shared joy.

I, for one, can't wait.

Ah, the Kash, I remember the days when you coulg get a curry and 3 chapatis for a quid.
We were talking about the Kash last night, funnily enough ... we were at the Punjab Grill (Punjabs now), which has been my regular for 20 years now I guess. I was explaining why we stopped going to the Kash ... and it's "posher" offspring, Anams.

Ye I'll admit... My comment wasn't really thought out my friend.

It's crazy how many Boro fans weirdly dislike the players we have because they remember a few mistakes and forget about all the good games they've had.

Paddy was man of the match against Coventry in the play-offs literally 2 games ago.

200 championship appearances. Consistently picked over 5 seasons, by 5 different managers.
He might not be Carrick's first choice but he's still played in over 50% of the games for him last season, and now he's being linked with Luton, Sheffield United and Leeds.

You guys must just know something all these experienced managers don't 🤦‍♂️
How well did those seasons go? He's a middle of the road championship player but we're paying top end for him. They've all played him in different positions because he's not good enough to be first choice in any position. We're in the championship still because we've had players like McNair and Assombolonga being our top earners despite not being good enough to get promoted.

I don't think he's a bad player. He's just not good value.

Just based on the fact Luton and Sheffield Utd have been linked with him in the PL would suggest he's potentially more than a middle of the road championship player.

Every team needs squad players who can do that. You can't praise Carrick for his team selections, formations and the way we play.... and then ignore the fact McNair has been part of over 50% of those games.

Can't really compare McNair's wages to Britts.... He's on 20k/week, which is pretty average for the top earners at any top 6 championship club.
We have 4 players on higher wages than that... Adam Reach is on nearly double that at West Brom... Barry Bannon was on 24k/week in League 1...

They want squad cover and he can cover several positions and for a PL club he is cheap. For us he is fast too expensive to be used as cover.

He's average for a top earner at a top championship team but most of them have parachute payments. We don't and McNair is being paid far too much for his quality. He is terrible value. We should undeniably have someone better for that money.

Pulis, Woodgate, Warnock, Wilder and Carrick would all disagree that he's "squad cover", since he's played almost every single game for most of them.

That's just a list of some of the worst managers we've ever had and Carrick, who played him when Fry was unavailable, i.e. squad cover.

Pulis almost never played him, despite signing him, and McNair hated Pulis for it.
Only started 7 games, and 4 of them were right at the end of the season and in a position that he'd publicly said he didn't want to play in before.

We signed him as an expensive midfielder, and Pulis barely ever gave him the chance to play as one, or play at all.

He absolutely was squad cover for Pulis.

There's a reason McNair liked his sacking announcement.
