* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v West Brom Match-Day Thread *

Kinda settled on this season being a transition season where we develop these young players we have and then add to it over the next couple of windows to try and make a push next season. Just need to see plenty of positive football.
Think this is the feeling I’m getting. Let’s build a team of our own young players instead of relying on too many loan players in the first team. Try and cement our game plan and our culture in the squad and play some good football.

Hopefully we win as many games as we can and maybe squeak into the playoffs.

Give the lad a chance. He`d had only three training sessions before the match (y)
I wasn't suggesting he shouldn't be given some breathing space just comparing comments from last week.

You know me roofie if I can't praise a player I tend to stay quiet.

Yep. I don't think it's impossible to have a run and make the playoffs but it's not my expectation at all. Brentford had a few seasons of finishing 10th but kept building and building.

When Wilder got the sack on 13th September 2021, Boro had just lost 1-0 to the Sky Blues.
We were 3rd bottom on 10 points after 11 games!
We still managed to get to the playoffs with two more Managers and the core of the same squad.

As things stand at the minute, we don't have much in teh way of depth, which is a worry. I think the first 11 (including tommy smith) are better than we have seen, in fact much better and would easily be top 6.

If we have a bad season for injuries, and don't strengthen a wee bit, it will be difficult. However, next season we won't be going into the first few games needing to replace 5 first team loanees. Carrick has pretty much said as much.

Van Den Berg must be injured. Payero moving, potentially? No Coulson either?

Coburn on the bench too, I thought he'd gone on loan.

I'm hoping Smith hasn't been rushed back.

If Smith is fully fit then I'd expect us to be quite strong today.
