* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Villa, FA Cup, Match-Day thread *

I thought the ref had a very good game and allowed it to flow. The penalty would have been hard to see at full speed and the only thing I feel he got wrong.
Oh I agree. I thought it was a dive in real time. The touch was marginal.

I guess the point I was making was, the spawny goal just evened it up.

The ref was ok but he allowed Villa to break , then stopped the game once they had lost the ball. He also allowed them to take free kicks from wherever they wanted and made us move the ball back on more than one occasion.

Also, contact doesn't automatically mean foul, it could be argued that it was a minimal touch and their player was already on his way to ground. I have definitely seen them given though.

For Carrick’s style of play the back three tonight were perfect. No panic on the ball and all confident in possession. Sadly for all his attributes Fry looks panicked in possession, his distribution is not great so cant play the Carrick way. I would not expect Fry to be back in on Tuesday.
Is this the same Fry who had Kane in his back pocket not so long ago

By not so long ago do you mean 2 years ago? It’s a while that in football mate. We all know he’s capable of the odd man of the match performance. He still doesn’t have the consistently and will always have the odd game where he lapses in concentration and gets bullied. He’s a good stand in defender but shouldn’t be considered a first choice anymore.

On the plus side if Birmingham can win their replay we’ll get 11 days off from the second leg to the sunderland game. Will give us time to recover and get some more injured players back
Could come in handy that. I would probably selfishly prefer us play Birmingham like. Hate it when we don’t have a game

Great effort as a team and all tonight.
Carrick said he was "proud" of the lads and the performance.
He said the lads in the dressing room were "disappointed": that's a sign of strength and desire to do better as individuals and as a group.
We can look forward to Tuesday with hope and belief.(y)
It will mean different tactics and different plan - hopefully to take a lead down to their place.

Did anyone else think that the corner leading to the goal was offside?
Offside in what way? Are you talking about the fact that the corner was played to a player who looked to possibly be in an offside position?

If so then no, that's not offside. You can't be offside when you receive the ball direct from a corner.

After reading match comments on the BBC match report sport pages. below are a couple of comments.

I think in general those that watched the game on TV are complimentary towards Boro and our performance against a Premier League team who are flying at the moment.

I watched the game again earlier this morning and the Boro really did put a shift in, to a man. Glover's saves look even more spectacular second time round and he deservedly got MOTM, closely followed by a great performance at CB by Matt Clarke. If Clarke plays like he did yesterday, week in and week out, we have one heck of a player.

Villa fan.Think Villa nicked it on merit but if 'Boro play like that against Chelsea I think they might be enjoying a day out at Wembley, fair play to them. I do like Carrick and Middlesbrough as a city and wish them luck.

Middlesbrough is the poorest town in England and the football club has been a beacon of hope. The people are very friendly and hospitable and the fans generational. Great club.
