* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Villa, FA Cup, Match-Day thread *

Possibly but for me I would go with the same 5 players if all fit and healthy. Engel and Bangura linked and looked after other well and between them dealt with Bailey well.
Agree 100% with this, it'd be unfair on both Engel and Bangura to disrupt that backline.

Tonight was the best game Clarke's had since his return and he is still trying to get up to speed.

I do think he will start and if I have contradicted that it is by mistake.
OK understand no probs its just in your original post you only used the words fry will start came across as if you were saying he definitely would start
Mind you I personally hope he doesn't not a fan of his

Massively proud of that performance tonight. Villa 2nd in the league and really didn't look much better than us, the defence only allowed them to create half chances with the possible exception of the header from the corner. Had to bring on Luiz and Watkins who didn't really affect the game either. Either side could have won it.

And when it comes down to it, going out narrowly to a good side in the third round without a replay is probably best given the current state of our squad and the fact we have a semi to play on Tuesday. We'll appreciate the extra rest when it comes to the league I'm sure.

It suits clarke to play in a 3 and Ive said on numerous occasions how poor our fullbacks are but bangura and jones are as good as any wingbacks in the champ. To me personel dictates we have to stick with that formation

You are confusing me - I did and do think Fry will start against Chelsea with Van Den Berg. I feel Clarke will be the one to drop out in the cup game.

I would be happy if we stuck with that formation against Chelsea or against 'superior teams'. I seriously doubt Carrick will play that way in the championship.

Good to have a Plan B.

To be fair to fry, the stop was different tonight as we're the tactics. We looked solid. Had wet played our usual formation the backline probably wouldn't have looked so solid.

On a different subject, whilst it was a jammy goal I thought the ref waved away a good penalty from Jones. Swings n roundabouts

Just back - take a bow lads. Great performance and effort. Held the team second in the Premiership for 80 mins and had a perfect game plan. So many outstanding performers tonight and today has restored my hopes of a great remainder of the season. Not a day to criticise anybody - brilliant today fellas hope many of the new fans get the Boro bug after watching that and turn up every week. Sad to lose to a deflection off someone’s backside but a very proud Boro fan tonight

I thought the ref had a very good game and allowed it to flow. The penalty would have been hard to see at full speed and the only thing I feel he got wrong.

That is exactly what I am saying, Fry will start and I think Clarke will be the unlucky one and drop out.

I think you are winding me up. ;)
How do you know Fry WILL start? That’s what people have their backs up for. You mean you think he will start? Not that he WILL start.

Not at all you need to go back to your original post and check your wording you said he WILL START thats why the other poster questions you about it after tvat your next two posts you said THOUGHT HE WOULD START big difference

For Carrick’s style of play the back three tonight were perfect. No panic on the ball and all confident in possession. Sadly for all his attributes Fry looks panicked in possession, his distribution is not great so cant play the Carrick way. I would not expect Fry to be back in on Tuesday.
