* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Southampton [03/24] Match-Day Thread *

It was a good point but it doesn’t alter the fact that a lot of the players on that pitch just aren’t going to get us anywhere near a promotion place next season
But a lot of those players you refer to are only on the pitch today due to our injures.

Carrick is officially now a tactical genius, bringing on the sub whom he knew would weight a perfect pass over to Latte Lath to head into the net!

Yes but we knew that. That is what a patched up team is - second string players.

Didn't see any of today's game not managed to listen to it.

What I would say is some of the moaning on here is comical and the analysis unbelievable.

Engel was slayed on here yet was fotmob's mom with 7.9.

Didn't see the game as I say but he only misplaced 9 passes and had a completion rate of 76%.

His crossing does look to be poor on stats with 2 from 6 landing.

It's a hobby with some on here though.
Forget what that says mate - he couldn’t complete simple passes from two to five yards. He’s a trier but he’s just not good enough to be first choice for us

Engel’s passing accuracy definitely has to be worked on, certainly on today's performance.
Greenwood, doesn't appear to offer a great deal often enough.
But the rest of the lads did their best, and we got what we deserved in the end.
Southampton will be more frustrated, because it looks like they will have to take their place in the play-offs.
Who knows?

I’ve said it a while about his passing. It’s really really poor at times.

Greenwood was not at the races - yet again. I would rather we played Silvera or even give Gilbert some more minutes instead. But hopefully McGree is back soon.

Clarke hobbling at the end - our one and only centre back! Hope he is OK. He had a good game against a strong team.

Greenwood is such a weird player. Had his moments for us, and I don’t even think he’s particularly bad most of the time so much as he just seems to consistently be a complete passenger? Strange.

Sorry but he played some very good passes through the lines in the second half and plenty of simple passes too. As was mentioned above, he only misplaced 6 passes and also made some crucial clearances. Not least in the mad scramble in our 6?yard box

Hope Carrick has a basket of creme eggs to hand out to our lads for that. Delighted . Dieng obv will have to get someone to peel the foil, due to the gloves issue like

Good point in the end, but I'd agree with the poster above that we won't trouble the playoffs next season unless we add more urgency to our game. Although we are often decent playing on the break, it's when we have possession (like at home) that our slow play costs us. We need to either address that on the training ground or add someone who's able to dictate the pace of the game better. That was one element of Chubas game last year that often got overshadowed by his goalscoring exploits.

I’m afraid the negatives far out way the positives - ok as a squad player yes, but we need much better than Engel to get out of this league

I called Greenwood very early doors...runs around a lot, every tackle us a foul, not good enough and we can't carry him.

Doesn’t know how to stay onside too. Just hasn’t worked out for him here since an initial good start. It’s a shame but I’d look to not start him now in the remaining games if we can get away with it.
