* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v QPR [03/24] Match-Day Thread *

Really enjoyed that even though the first 25 mins was really nervy. Can’t complain about any of the players on the pitch. Three CBs were top, VDB best of the three and my MOTM.

Howson and O’Brien looking a much better pairing and two clinical finishes from the two strikers.

A massive contrast to this time last week. Win on Tuesday and I might start looking at hotels again…

So the next time someone claims that Carrick isn't pragmatic, always plays the same way, the same tactics then point to todays game. He was happy to change to a mid-press, concede possession, ensure we get behind the ball and block the passing lines and then hit on the break a bit more. Worked a treat. Most solid defensive performance of the season, didn't really give them any opportunities.

Dieng 7 - had one fairly routine lob to save and one other shot that I'd expect him to save, no fuss really
Rav 8 - superb tackle from that through ball, a world class tackle actually
McNair 8 - solid and organised
Clarke 9 - man of the match for me, won everything in the air and on the deck, solid with the ball at his feet again
Ayling 8 - steady all game and an assist
Engel 7 - tricky first half (6), dominated that side in the second (8)
Howson 8 - owned the midfield
O'brien 8 - best game in a Boro shirt
Lath 7 - worked hard good finish
Forss 7 - worked hard good finish

subs 7s all put effort in and showed some good game management
Ya missed McGree off... 6 did not influence the game again.

Missed the first 30 mins, but some bog saves from Dieng, ensuring it’s not lost before we even got going.

Apart from their 10 minute surge in the first half they looked very much like a bottom half team although I’m not too sure if they’re absolute relegation fodder. We contained them especially making sure that Chair was kept away from having direct efforts on goal. As soon as he went off you could tell they were beaten. Nice goals by Latte and Forss but once again I think we’re indebted to Jonny Howson who just oozes class at this level.

I've never told you this before Roofie...but thank you. I always read these threads every week but now I have a bit more time to appreciate them and the work you put in to it, epic mate x
Always follow away games on Roofie's match day thread 'cos I can't hack listening on the radio and a stream is out of the question with our internet. But as I read the comments I always bear in mind the words of Field Marshal Slim......"In battle nothing is ever as good or as bad as the first reports of excited men would have it."👍

Boring first half, better second. Defence earned their clean sheet. Clarke was the pick of the bunch, got some great blocks in and he passes forward rather than just side to side.
532 suits us a lot more. We need to get more support to the wing backs when going forward and I think this improved after half time.

Most pleasing thing to me is that we didn't play it short as QPR were pressing us. Lath is an absolute b***r for defenders. What he lacks in strength and aerial ability he makes up for in persistance.

I'd like to see coburn up top in a two. With five subs lath or forss can run themselves into the ground for sixty minutes then you bring the other lad on.

I thought that was an excellent performance. Proffessional and solid. Exactly what we needed.
Now then. Where’s my case of McMullens Country Bitter after predicting the three points?
Crackin result.
Six more points available this week........dare to dream 🍻

So when Jones is back will he be RWB or competing with Forss? Thoughts?

Would love to see him in for Ayling myself.

Great to see the players happy again.
Great to see Latte Lath and Forss score in two games on the trot.
Carrick said it was the first time in a long time he could pick a consistent team. I think this proved it.
On to Birmingham.......(y)

Before Jones injury, I recall Ayling playing deeper down the right, feeding Jones the ball higher up and doing well.(y)
