* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Leeds United [04/24] Match Day Thread *

Who the hell was the male co-commentator on Sky tonight? Talk about Captain hindsight. Driving me mad. Every time something happened he was pointing out what the player who should have done. Ohh - he should have shot. Ohh - he should not have given away that penalty. Ohh - He should have passed and not shot. Ohh he should have spotted the run. Ohh - the defender should have cleared the ball.

He was getting paid for that.

The main female commentator was OK.

Was it Hinchcliff?

Dieng 6 - Looked nervy, conceded 4. Canā€™t really be any higher.
Thomas 5 - Looks like heā€™s won a competition to play football.
Clarke 5 - On a walkabout half the night, did some good stuff but was generally poor.
Rav 6 - Not his best night but his quality is evident.
Dijksteel 4 - Played like a player who knows heā€™s being released.
Howson 5 - Gave the ball away a lot, fouled a lot. I think itā€™s time to move on from Johnny.
Oā€™Brien 6 - Busy, made some good drives forward. Probably the best Iā€™ve seen him play for us.
Jones 7 - Constant threat, his pace and trickery is invaluable.
Silvera 4 - Conference standard at best. Too weak for this league. Cheap gamble that hasnā€™t paid off.
Azaz 6 - Heā€™s got quality, heā€™s just very slow on the ball.
Latte Lath 9 - Looks an absolute find. Hope we bring some quality in to support him next season.

Gilbert 7 - Really good when he came on. Lovely ball for Latte Lathā€™s goal. On that display and his assist the other week disappointed we havenā€™t seen more from him.
Bangura 7 - So much better than Thomas. Looks an upgrade on Engel too.

Fact:

Leeds United have conceded three goals this season in only three games:

V Southampton

V Ipswich

V Middlesbrough (y)

Just back - that was a hell of an open game first half especially, really enjoyed it apart from not equalising at the end. Only dissapointment was half our fans left on 80- minutes. I wondered if it was a protest or something so many did it. Anyway they missed out to a great end to the game

Whatā€™s clear is that the core of the team is very good. Dieng made a clanger tonight but every keeper at this level does. He still starts a lot of our attacks and makes some top class saves. Rav is class and should improve, but for me Iā€™m not sure who plays alongside fry, Lenihan and Clarke are all just short of what we need. Howson is still decent and Hackney has been a real miss. Lath is a top champo player.

For me yes we need a CDM but itā€™s really in the wide area we struggled tonight and all season. Jones got a goal but is very wasteful, good squad member though. Silvera was a passenger, as was greenwood when he played. LW is a problem position. As is lb maybe Bangura will get his chance now. Rb if we donā€™t resign Ayling is another problem area. We saw tonight that Dijksteel isnā€™t champo level

Andy Hinchcliff it certainly was.
He is awful. He just rambles and certainly doesnā€™t realise that sometimes silence is preferred.
As soon as he was announced I turned the volume down.
Is there a crowd noise only option. ?
The guy is a complete idiot who brings absolutely nothing to his role. Dumbed down doesn't do it justice.

Agree with your assessment of the centre backs clarke is definitely not the answer and fry and Lenihan are not either. I think we need to bring in a higher quality partner for rvb and let 1 go

Spot on BoroMart. Our centre backs are 80% of required capability level, rav excepted, third needs to be addressed in the summer. Bangura will e no 1 lb next season, but I hope he keeps fit.

Which one though? Iā€™d keep Clarke. Which means either fry because heā€™s never quite reached the peak we hoped and a change of scenery could suit both parties, he always gets injuries too. Could get 3m for him? Or Lenihan, will be on big wages as a proven champo free transfer? Both are too good/expensive to sit on the bench but not quite the level we want in the first team.

Clarke is a backup centre back for me and only has 1 year left i think on his contract. So i would cash in him and replace with a more mobile pacier centre back. Fry cant be relied upon to be fit but i cant see us getting decent money so he would be a backup. We need to find a top centre back to partner vdb.

Exactly what crossed my mind
It did seem they knew exactly how to break away against us and were setting traps. Once they got goal side of us in midfield we couldn't cope with their pace.
A boateng type midfielder and a top centre back to partner vdb would transform the spine of the side. Thats where we need to focus on this summer

Looking at the highlights again. I thought we were really hard done by with non-offside decisions on Leeds players. Bothe there first and second goals Leeds players were in offside positions in the built ups. In the third Leeds goals the Leeds player (Gnoto) was several feet offside before scoring.
