Tonight we welcome Leeds, for whom winning this game or at least taking a point at this stage of the season is critical. It will mean they've played a game more than their three automatic promotion rivals: Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton. The Saints have the most to do, but it's still possible if results go right in the final few games. Leeds are two points of Ipswich in second, a point behind Leicester, who went back top on Saturday in a nervy 2-1 win against West Brom. In spite of some solid performances, Leeds form is poor, with only eight points out the last six games. Their last game was a 1-0 defeat at home to struggling Blackburn Rovers, and prior to that was a drab 0-0 at home to the Mackems.

[Leeds fell apart against Blackburn Rovers in their first home defeat of the season!]

They had a fantastic run in January, February and March, which pushed them into contention for the automatic spots. It has been the poor form of Leicester which has helped the other three clubs to catch up. Ipswich have continued to scrap, but it was the likes of Boro`s crucial point at Portman Road which set back their automatic challenge. Dropping two points at this stage of the season can make the difference between automatic or the play-offs. Tonight Leeds will be desperate for the points, but our recent nine-game unbeaten run isn't a fluke, and we can give Farke`s side more than just a run for the money. If they think it's a foregone conclusion, they've got another thing coming!

[Carrick treat's tonight's game "no different" to any other].

Michael Carrick knows the importance of this game for Leeds, but is concerned that we have got our training and preparation right. In his recent media conference, he highlighted getting the squad ready for another game is his priority. Perhaps it's not a "derby", but there is always a feisty atmosphere against the "dirty whites", perhaps because they have always had a sense of entitlement over the years and Cup and League achievements many decades ago. It will be another brilliant encounter with a 30,000+ crowd under the lights at The Riverside.

Plans for the summer and next season:

Perhaps most important for us Boro fans is what's happening in preparation for next season? Have contracts been signed? Are talks under way with key players? Who is he planning to bring in and who is likely to depart? He remained tight-lipped, as to be expected:

I can't sit here now and give you a definite answer. It's impossible for me to do that but for sure we're working on a number of things, and it'll be fair to the individuals as players......for me now of course we're looking to try and do certain things and to keep players [and] make the strong this squad as strong as we possibly can.

1713782422014.png

[Carrick was reportedly previously interested in 21-year-old Leeds defender Charlie Creswell. Creswell made his senior debut for Leeds in 2020. After a loan spell at Millwall, he finds himself playing a bit-part role back at Elland Road, despite penning a contract which takes him up to 2027. He's hungry to play football. Will he be a target for Boro this summer?]

Clearly, Carrick and his staff are looking outwards, to bring in players to strengthen the squad, hinting at the difficulties he's had dealing with other clubs, trying to get deals over the line. It's the work we don't see, going on behind the scenes, to guarantee signatures, details and sometimes issues with parent clubs and agents. A year on. Carrick said recently he's learned a lot as Head Coach, both on the touchline, and behind closed doors.

I think you're always pretty clear in terms of what we want it to look like: what type of players, where we want to strengthen within the group and how we want to move forward. I think that's that's pretty clear in terms of exactly [?] who and what it'll look like. That's not an easy, that's not always our decision. We try to do the things we feel we want and bring in, but it's not always [that] straightforward.

[Brilliant news when Isaiah Jones signed his new three-year contract last week].

So, we know Isaiah recently signed a new contract, but there are others who have a year or so left on theirs, what's happening to them ? What about Jonny Howson, Riley McGree and Paddy McNair, for instance?
1713781237302.png
[Will Jonny Howson still be wearing the red n white next season?]

Are we looking to sign the likes of Luke Ayling or Sam Greenwood?

I think um until anything's done contract wise, talks are ongoing in different ways with different players but certainly....until there's anything to kind of confirm... it's not really [for me] to comment further. It's not really the right thing to do, but certainly we want the squad to be stronger we've got some important players that we want to have here [?] for a lot longer.

Back to tonight, we have the usual injury list [Hackney, McGree, Forss, Coburn, Fry, Lenihan and Glover], but we've done well considering over the last month or so. As we know, Ayling and Greenwood will be up in the stands tonight, watching their parent club get beat. Carrick has options.

1713781084382.png
["Manny" Latte Lathe has scored 14 goals in all competitions this season!]

We know we haven't always played "pretty" football during our nine game unbeaten run, and at times we've given away unnecessary goals attempting to play out from the back. But we have nothing to be scared of about Leeds. The pressure will be on them. We have had crackin performances from Clarke and Van den Berg, and Anfedrnee Djiksteel is more than competent to cover for the absence of Ayling.
1713781900926.png
[Finn Azaz scores against Hull in that 2-2 draw].

With Howson operating as the hub of our midfield - distributing the ball and taking the steam out of Leeds pressing, not forgetting our star, in-form, striker Emmanuel Latte-Lath, we can take on Leeds. Bring em on. With almost 3000 Leeds fans, it's going to be a great atmosphere. Let's hope we send them "marching on together" back down the A19 with no points to take home tonight.

We can do this.

Let's make it ten games unbeaten!

Up The Mighty Boro!

Top Scorers - Leeds United:

The top three players at Elland road are all into double figures, with Leeds having the 5th highest total in the Championship [76], behind Norwich [77] and Leicester [81], with Ipswich and Southampton both on 85.

1713784841226.png
Crysencio Summerville has played every league game for Leeds this season. With 18 league goals and 9 assists, he is clearly their biggest threat. Still only 22, he joined the Elland road outfit from Feyenoord in Holland in 2020. Under previous Managers he wasn't always first choice, but this season he has more than proven he's worth being on the team sheet!

1713785049482.png
Welsh International Daniel James started his Senior career at Swansea City, but moved on and made 50 appearances for Manchester United. In 2021, he joined Leeds and went out on loan to Fulham. This season, he has played in 42 games, notched 13 goals and 8 assists. He plays as a winger, so we better be ready for him tonight!

1713785880600.png
Joel Piroe is a name we will be familiar with from his time at Swansea City, with whom he made 91 appearances, contributing 41 goals. Last summer, he cost Leeds a reported £10M and has so far scored 12 goals with 3 assists.

A certain Patrick Bamford has added 8 goals and 2 assists this season, often coming on as sub. The former Boro "icon" is now in his 31st year, having left us almost six years ago! Italian, Wilfried Gnonto, has played at all levels for his country and is only 20 years old! His goals and assists match Bamford's, though he plays more as a winger.

1713786297340.png
1713786537202.png

Georginio Rutter signed over 16 months ago from Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim. Essentially an attacking midfielder, his goal tally is 7, but he has provided 16 assists in 45 games! According to media reports, he cost Leeds over £30M`s. A record fee for them. [Does he bear a slight resemblance to Rudy Gestede?]

* In total, 16 players have scored for Leeds in the Championship this season.

Daniel Farke

1713788024096.png

"We have to concentrate on us"

[Edit]

Speaking ahead of the final few matches, Farke gave his thoughts to the media at Thorp Arch.

He said: “Each and every game is important.

“Each and every point counts and the closer you come to the end, the more important it is because the less chances you have to repair if you're there with a mistake.

“But it's more or less the same as what we have faced during the whole season, so we have to concentrate on us.

“We have to concentrate on being good in our game and also better than the last game in order to use our chances to be effective, in order to win as many points as possible.

“Then we'll see what the outcome is.”

Monday night will see the Whites face a strong Boro side. An entertaining game at Elland Road earlier in the season saw Farke’s side come out on top, with a 3-2 win.

“It's a side also in the recent weeks who were there with really good performances,” the managed stated.

“It’s a side who, at the beginning of the season, would also speak about that they want to finish in the top six and there's still a chance, so you have to keep going until the end.

“I expect them to be highly motivated, perhaps to play even with a bit less pressure because they have nothing to lose any more, they just can win something.

“Obviously it is also a pretty local game, and they will be highly motivated in the home game to be there with outstanding performance and really good results.

"So I expect a really tough, tough game for us."

Daniel Farke may finally rip off the Leeds United plaster his team needs in do-or-die Boro visit

Leeds United visit Michael Carrick's Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium in the Championship on Monday night, and here are five things to look out for around the match:

1713805167973.png
One enforced change will be needed from Daniel Farke tonight as Leeds United deal with the injury to Connor Roberts. The Wales international has suffered a reoccurrence of the injury he picked up on national duty last month.

The manager acknowledged he had tried his best to manage the right-back’s return, but he was not cautious enough. Is Archie Gray immediately returned to that slot on the field, or does Farke want to preserve his nascent partnership with Ilia Gruev in the engine room?

It could come down to whether Farke wants Sam Byram or Glen Kamara in his team.

Patrick Bamford has had one effective start in attack since mid-February, while Joel Piroe has not looked like the answer in the line-up or from the bench this calendar year. After one win in five and do-or-die territory virtually upon us, is it time Farke throws caution to the wind?

Mateo Joseph came of age with 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge against Trevoh Chalobah and Axel Disasi that yielded two goals, and he’s rarely looked off it since. Farke has already said he likes to change his attack if it has drawn a blank in the previous game, so it all seems set up for the Spaniard.

A half-century for Farke

Tonight will be Farke’s 50th match in the dugout as Leeds manager. Up to now, he has delivered 29 wins, 11 draws and nine defeats since arriving last July. That’s a 59 per cent win rate and the best in the club’s history for bosses who have taken charge of more than four matches.

Of course, we are talking about one season in the second tier with a squad good enough for promotion, but the German does deserve a lot of credit for how this campaign has unfolded.

Part one of the big Ipswich pressure plan

If Leeds are to really turn the screw on Ipswich Town while they get through a fortnight without a game, they have to win tonight and complete part one of the scheme. A win tonight takes Leeds back into the top two, one point clear, and a second victory on Friday night at Queens Park Rangers turns it into a four-point advantage.

That kind of clear air should put some seeds of doubt in Suffolk minds, which will be watching the Leeds game on Friday night from their East Yorkshire hotel rooms.

Avoid a season’s worst record at the worst time

If United do not win tonight, it will be the longest winless streak of the season for the Whites and, clearly, at the worst possible time. Going four games without a win is never going to cut the mustard in a promotion run-in in April.

Looking forward to this game. Hopefully Carrick will come up with a formation and personnel that allows us to be solid and attack effectively.

I’m worried about tonight.

First game since my knee operation at the weekend.

I’m a jump in the air and kick every ball spectator.

Maybe I should just ring the ambulance now? 🙈🚑🩼
