* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Blackburn Match-Day Thread *

It was already the worst - we're just increasing the gap over - or should that be under? - the previous worst ever

This isn't the case - in 2003-4 we started the first five exactly the same - LLDLL. We beat Everton at home in game six though, 21st September, and finished 11th AND won the League Cup. So, you never know (!)

No he isn’t, I just find it interesting that his name is the one mentioned every time whereas you hear nothing about Danks at all. The three of them are responsible for the coaching, surely.
They are, but Woodgate and Carrick have the seniority and the overall responsibility so rightly the buck stops with them more than Danks.

He doesn't need to be honest to the media either by the way. As much as I disagree with his assessment here, it's obvious that he doesn't want to criticise the players in public and there's nothing wrong with that.
You can be critical of a team performance without throwing players under the bus. It's when manager's criticise individual players, then it can create issues.

All we want is a bit of honesty. If he honestly thought we played well today then that's his opinion, but it's concerning.

You can see the style we want to play and some of the football we played in the second half was really exciting but our defensive work needs a lot of (well) work and we are missing sitters.
We have to hope it comes good
I thought Fry improved as the game wore on.
We need pace and guile up top so Jones and Mcgree have to start as well as Forss
Rodger’s and Silvera are not ready and I also feel Howson is looking his age so maybe O’Brien and Hackney in midfield for me.

Positives from today.

Dieng & Fry have had good games.

Bangura looks good.

Did you watch the game? Fry was his normal too slow, too laborious and absolutely clueless self. Unless he can pass sideways or back he is lost. He was constantly embarrassed by an average forward line. He is part of the problem not the solution. Another hugely overrated player by completely blinkered fans of ‘a local lad’. We have to find a way to get a new centre back pairing for n or we are in bigger trouble than we realise.

I agree they do carry the can more than Danks but to me they’re all coaches. We’ve seen the footage of Carrick on the training field, he’s very hands-on. They’re all coaching but Carrick is the main man. I think he needs more help from his senior players TBH.

No it wasn’t. As I said two weeks ago the BBC either got that wrong or was using their “football, that’s the game that was invented in 1992” database again.

We lost five and drew one at the start of 84/85 which we have now merely equalled. Can’t see us not making the BBC correct by Tuesday though.

I thought Fry had a good game

Carrick post match interview.

"I can't fault the players, they gave everything, I couldn't ask more of the them"

I'm really F***ing tired of mediocre being acceptable.

Take aways are that Hackney is excellent
Hackney was awful as he has been all season
Gives ball away continuously.
Caught out of position countless times.
Players are running off him in midfield all the time. (This is one of the biggest problems we have in the team at the moment as our 2 center backs can’t handle players running at them).

Honesty isn't all the fans want. Some want him to be sacked / resign. Some want Gibson to go. Him saying it was sh*te and we are going down isn't going to help anything apart from making some fans feel a little bit better. Even if he said 'blame me not the players', people would still be raging.

I'm not too worried but I will be if results and performances are similar in mid-October. I think a lot hinges on whether Engel, Lath, Bangura, van den Berg and Silvera can find their feet in this league but people have already run out of patience.

I think the players tried hard today, especially in the second half, but we've got loads of new players and some who are new to English football. It shows. I think it will improve but Carrick needs to play Forss up top, get Coburn involved and get McGree in the team, although the travelling with Oz might have been a factor today.
