* The Unofficial "Official" Boro v Blackburn Match-Day Thread *

He doesn't need to be honest to the media either by the way. As much as I disagree with his assessment here, it's obvious that he doesn't want to criticise the players in public and there's nothing wrong with that.
You don’t criticise individuals, but your either being dishonest or delusional if you’re saying the players couldn’t have given more.

Saying things like that is going to increase the frustration of the fans and turn people against him it’s actually going to be counterproductive and just creates different problems.

Pretty flat after that tbh. We need to defend better and take our chances - says everyone …

I agree they do carry the can more than Danks but to me they’re all coaches. We’ve seen the footage of Carrick on the training field, he’s very hands-on. They’re all coaching but Carrick is the main man. I think he needs more help from his senior players TBH.
Woodgate may be hands on, but the results of that are clearly not working through to matchdays, if Danks were an issue, and given his strong coaching background I’d be surprised, but Woodgate and Carrick should be identifying that. I think it far from the case.

We have a hands on Chairman who in recent times has got a lot wrong

We have a Head of Football who has identified very little to justify his power and is looking out of his depth.

Woody, has a reputation for being a good coach, that isn’t translating to success with any squad he has coached at Boro bar last season where defensively we were still a bit of a shambles for a top 4 team lets not forget.
Carrick is a new young manager, he didn’t have the luxury of choosing his backroom team and now the ship is holed arguably hasn’t the trusted head to assist getting us to dry dock to effect the repair. I feel for Carrick that he has been accidentally set up to fail this season and while he nonetheless carries a lot of the can, if we are not careful the bigger problem in my eyes will remain, Scott.

Honesty isn't all the fans want. Some want him to be sacked / resign. Some want Gibson to go. Him saying it was sh*te and we are going down isn't going to help anything apart from making some fans feel a little bit better. Even if he said 'blame me not the players', people would still be raging.

I'm not too worried but I will be if results and performances are similar in mid-October. I think a lot hinges on whether Engel, Lath, Bangura, van den Berg and Silvera can find their feet in this league but people have already run out of patience.

I think the players tried hard today, especially in the second half, but we've got loads of new players and some who are new to English football. It shows. I think it will improve but Carrick needs to play Forss up top, get Coburn involved and get McGree in the team, although the travelling with Oz might have been a factor today.
I'm not saying he should say we were sh*te. Just give an honest assessment of the game.

It may be that he genuinely felt the players couldn't have given any more, but if that's us giving it the best we've got then it doesn't bode well for the future.

He needs to change it but he's going to have to find the right formula soon, because the gap will quickly widen and then real panic will set in.

We’re already at the point where a win wouldn’t get us out the relegation zone and that’s only going to get more difficult as the season progresses. I haven’t seen anything to suggest we’re a side good enough to string a few wins together yet.

"I made some changes today that didn't work, the lads put a shift in but we didn't work well as a unit and that comes down to me. I am going to think about it tonight, speak to the team tomorrow and tog we're going to get through this difficult patch. I will make whatever changes are needed to make the team competitive." -

There you go, no players thrown under any buses, responsibility taken in an effort to shield mental health and yet a truthful response.

You don’t like Carrick. We get it.

result could've been 6-6 today
just not good enough at either end
but we still had more than enough chances to win

Carrick is acutely aware of the current situation:

Sometimes you click straight away. It doesn’t hinder my belief or knock that at all about what we`re capable of. I`ve said that enough.

There`s no hiding from it: we need results. I believe we`l get that if keep doing the right thing and putting in largely [as I said] the performances that we`ve done. [We`ve] deserved to have a hell of a lot more out of them than we`ve got. That`s why I`m looking forward [smile].

There`s a process of the need to fit in and get to know the other players. Its such a good environment to come in to. I think if you ask any of the boys, they`ve settled quickly because of the staff...and how they`ve been looked after. There`s a whole raft of things that goes into it. There`s time on the training pitch and getting to know how we play our football and what we expect of them. [As I said] some times that takes a little bit longer, sometimes you click straight away. Everyone`s different, but the boys that have came in, it`l be fine and they`l do great for us.

it hasnt gone quite our way, but you got to stay level: level when you win, level when it doesn’t go to plan. You`ve got to judge the performance [look at] common factors. Whats the performance like over time. Do we believe in it? Do we stick with it? Do we think we need to do better [?] to change certain things [?], but you`ve got to be quite level when you [make] judge[ment] or not. It doesn’t certainly change how we see football and what we believe in, so we`re pretty calm and we`re actually excited and looking forward to the games coming up.

Its part of us to manage the group, manage the mood, manage the psychology to a point and keeping the confidence and belief when its right to be there. There`s no point going and saying every thing`s fine when its not fine so there`s a balance, but largely [as I`ve said] there`s been a lot of good things and the boys are trying to do the right thing and get some success. Its not always the success we feel we`ve deserved, but [there`s] enough in there to really encourage me, and the staff and the group, and the players, they`re in a good place and look forward to whats coming up.

Didn’t see the game today, how did bangura do, did he go off injured? If so what was the injury?
Bangura was okay. Looked like he struggled to adapt to the intensity of the Championship, first half especially.

He seemed to take a whack in a tackle, didn't look like he was holding his hamstring when he walked off in front of the Boro fans. Could be wrong.

Nothing to suggest he's going to be better/worse than Engel🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

He was asked by Hugh Woozencroft about whether there was now a crisis at the club, which Carrick's response was to simply laugh. I hope he's not going to come out next and say the league table 'is lying' we know who came out with that classic quote!

On the subject of Woody wasn't he only given Dijksteel and Bola as summer sigings? (But did have a far more experienced squad) EDIT and Marcus Browne and Stojanovic once Randolph was moved on)

I don't think carrick should be getting it in the neck here its the recruitment team who have supplied the club with players who clearly aren't good enough for this division.

Latte looks like JFH in the promotional video that was linked on this site recently. I hope that's not the basis that we've signed him on!

The big question and the big worry for me is do we have the right players to turn this season around at the club.

And honestly I’m not sure.

I think we do. I think.......😳

But Carrick needs to realise we can't beat teams by being gung ho and outscoring them. We don't have the players, unlike last season.

Best chance is keeping it tight and grinding 1-0, 2-1s out. Bore our way to some away draws, pick points up. If that means changing the formation and packing the defence/midfield, or dropping the more flair players in favour of the more hard working ones......so be it.

Said elsewhere:
We need to find [quickly] a settled core of players who provide us with a spine.
We can introduce those with little Championship experience gradually - but cant afford to give away school-boy goals and throwing our ammo all over the place. (y)
At the moment, we cant finish, cant defend and have an ineffective midfield.
Thats one big big problem if we are a football team.

I totally agree with this which is why that first 11 yesterday was so disappointing as that is not even close to be our best 11.

Pick an 11 and play them regardless of the result trust in your instincts and hopefully it clicks.

Hopefully.
