* The Unofficial “Official” Boro v Norwich [03/24] Match-Day Thread *

First and foremost he has to be solid as a defender. He isn’t, he makes bad decisions and mistakes that stand out every game.

It’s his first season in English football, probably a higher standard than he played in Denmark. Hopefully he will be better next year for the experience.
He never hides and always is looking for the ball. The lad makes mistakes but give him his due, he tries to win the ball back.

The referee has done us an absolutely massive favour here. Until that red card we were beyond abysmal. Slow, ponderous, frightened, disjointed, completely all over the show. Why on earth we started with such a high line when we have no pace at the back was beyond belief. Five at the back and yet there were gaping holes everywhere.

Thankfully we’ve got back on terms and then in front but there was a few minutes in the first 30-35mins when it looked as bad as it’s looked since the dark days of Woodgate and Strachan.

We should win comfortably now and build some confidence. A few more goals would be very nice.

Despite his very wayward passing, Engel has at least looked like he's bothered, even before we equalised and then took the lead.
He's been our most dangerous attacker, despite his obvious inconsistencies.

McGree and O'Brien gave him few options until after the sending off. O'Brien looks way off but he's had so long out it's to be expected. McGree needs to find his old form, needs more effort.

Not many mentions for another favourite, Rav. Poor first half, needs to sort his head out

Good to see Lath get on the s ore sheet, he needed it, badly.

If a decision goes against you deal with it. If it goes for you accept it. This is what happens stuff evens out. Bunch of miserable gits they're reading out at half time. Jesus. We're owed a bit of luck the injuries we've had. They seem ***ed off they can't revel in their misery

We've lost a few this season where we were the better team. Hull at home springs to mind. So its about time we had a bit of luck. (y)

We've needed a bit of luck. So many games we've played well and conceded an unfortunate or lucky goal. Not going to turn us into playoff contenders, but should bring the confidence back

Engel has put some good balls in, including the one that led to the goal, but he gives the ball away and makes real basic errors constantly every time he plays. He's nowhere near good enough if we want to push for promotion especially if we are going to play the way Carrick wants to. He's just not a good enough footballer.
It'd help everyone if others moved to the ball rather than waiting for it to come to them. We have gone from the flowing football of last season where players were always on the move to having to be uber accurate with the ball into feet. I know we're not blessed with pace, but our ability to create space has really suffered this season.

Not sure about the first and foremost but you are right he will need time to adapt.

In the meantime he offers much more than Thomas or ayling going forward.

He looks to care which is more than you can say for several in this team, never hides, ditto and finally, in the first 25 minutes nobody was moving and the whole team looked like they couldn't pass for the same reason.

On that other replay on i follow there it seemed like he didn’t kick out, but almost definitely held his studs up intentionally.

Hmmm, didn’t look dangerous, but if you hold studs up near a player then it is technically a red isn’t it?

I’ve switched sides on this twice now.
