* The Unofficial “Official” Boro v Millwall, Match-Day Thread *

It's a difference of opinion we often debate. Pointless having it again.

But today has really highlighted why he's not good enough. If you can't see that you never will.

Scoring a tap in doesn't change the fact he has been absolutely dreadful
He has been poor, some of his decision making in dander areas is mind boggling, but he has had very little help on that left side to be fair. We have to be so much better with the defensive side of things, especially away from home where we look ridiculously open at times.

Well, that wasn't the prettiest first half I ever watched us play and Millwall could have been out of sight, too many having an off day and sloppy passing all over. Let's hope Carrick goes through them and we come out firing on all cylinders.

Ayling was our best player that half I think.

Stepped in as if he's played for us all season. Hit a worldy of a cross later in the half as well.
Yeah Ayling looked very solid defensively and in possession. Everything I expected from him really.

Bit of a mixed bag from the front 4. Some decent stuff along with a bit of wasteful football.

Don't think Howson and Barlaser have really got hold of the midfield like they can do either.

Would maybe look to get Crooks and Hackney on

We are still terrible at closing second balls after clearing headers.

A mix of our full backs and deep midfielders mostly at fault. Ayling for the goal today, but difficult to blame someone too much 6 minutes into his debut.

I also think our "front four" are often a little too disconnected from our back 6. It means we are often looking for a killer ball to break the press rather than gradually moving forwards. When it comes off we often overload the defence - very high risk, high reward option.

I must have been watching a different game to you Norm:unsure:

Only Matt Crooks has more goal contributions than Sam Greenwood this season. Yet he gets pelters all the time.
He gets involved around the box, but he loses the ball too often in the middle of the park. The main problem today is an inability to make the ball stick up front and hence relieve pressure. That's why we need another midfielder on, preferably Hackney, who can put his foot on the ball. Rodgers and Jones can beat a man, Azaz sees a pass, so Greenwood off for me, despite his goal contribution.

I didn;t want that first half to end, we were flying. What about Luke Ayling? What a a player, hasn't put a foot wrong.

Been great after the first ten minutes - it is him in no man's land with the goal after a good header from Fry.

But difficult to blame a debutant 10 mins allowing a volley from the edge of the box.

Hence why Coburn is so important to us at the moment. We are desperate for another striker.

I think Ayling was trying too hard at first, guilty of trying to dive in and win the ball and losing out. I am sure it is also due to the lack of game time at Leeds.

Got out of work early so watching on Riverside Live ( half an hour earlier I could have gone😭), initially Millwall all over us, since our goal a totally different game. Liking the look of Ayling especially as the lad hasn’t played much himself.

They've had 2 on target, we've had 4. Apparently.
