* The Unofficial “Official” Boro v Bristol City [Feb / 24] Match-Day Thread *

Hackney has looked much better in midfield. He's not a #10. Take either Barlaser or Obrien off and put mcgree on the left and azaz as the 10, and see what he can do in his proper position.

I think we were all guilty into thnking we have just been unlucky this season with injuries etc, but players seem to be coming back now and if anything
were actually worse , just demonstrating how utterly inconsistent the team is

We lack pace , and a proper number 9, we lack wingers, we have a lot of central midfielders and were accomodating them in the team

Hackney for me is not a number 10 or 'droppy offy' striker, hes playing there due to lack of options, the team suffers when he isnt playing
in his ususal position as one of the double pivots

Mcgree should be brought on if he is not caring a knock.

Engel awful and shouldn’t be starting again for us, Barlaser awful and has been Bristol City’s best attacker, Azaz lost on the left, Greenwood may as well have took the day off an gone shopping, Hackney consistently giving the ball away in danger areas, and the decision to have our best finisher poncing about on the right wing continues to baffle - it’s only the keeper and RVDB who have kept us in this so far

We just kept giving the ball straight back to Bristol. They closed us down well, but their energy levels shouldn’t be something we can’t match.

Not sure the keeper had been good. One good save but the first goal was, in part, his mistake.

The whole team look awful today.

He's good going forward and is left woefully exposed by our midfield. I don't think he deserves the flack he gets, generally. He has been bad today.
That's a cop out btw. Being left exposed. That's an acceptable excuse when he's getting overlapped etc. But he makes lots of basic defensive mistakes like today. It's not an isolated occurrence. Btw, he almost cost us another from a corner when he squirmed a volley back across our own 6 yard box. Very lucky to get away with it.

Well said. We've glossed over some p*** poor performances. Initially it was settling in, then it was injuries. We are no further forward.

Carrick starting to look like the intransigent Wilder. Like f groundhog day. Learning absolutely nothing with every passing chronic display.

I hope we have a financial plan going forward because we need to start investing in the team and we can't rely on projects. Some might come good, but unless they all come good together then it's going to be a cycle of one or two emerging, being sold at a profit and not moving the team forward.
It may be a financial reality, but we need to find a way round it otherwise we'll be a Championship club for many years to come.

I beg to differ btw. But either way he's job is to defend which he can't do, he's not the only one who's shihht but he's the one I question over how he made it as a footballer.

I don't think it is a cop out. The clearance he squirmed up into t the box was the defenders doing for getting in front of him. It was a goal line clearance as well

He makes himself available on the flack constantly. He does give the ball away on occasions, often when he is trying to play one touch football, I agree. He is good going forward though and, I assume, playing to instructions.

Team selection was dreadful. We play a formation with 2 CMs so I have no idea why we're forcing 3 into the starting lineup. None of them should be playing further forward and none of them are good enough to make it worthwhile.

We have 1 fit striker and he's not playing up front. It's just making things harder for ourselves.
