The 'Royal' train tour

They've set an example that it's safe to travel across different tiers safely. There'll be plenty copying the clown's this weekend.

The country is like Donald Trump, mature in years, immature in attitude. It will be a long time before it's ready to have done with the utterly ridiculous idea of monarchy.
Again you put yourself in a high place.
Is there anything in this country you admire?

I would not call it a privileged life, living in such a goldfish bowl. There are plenty of people that recognise the good they do. I agree people like Andrew have set their cause back and probably speeded up their demise. Harry imho has too.

I have always been a monarchist on balance as I think the pomp adds value to the country. However, looking at some of their shenanigans, I think that their existence in its current form is harder to justify. If the UK breaks up, then I can see huge changes taking place. Just because a few like minded opinionated folk on a distant message board want them scrapped does not mean the whole country would. I think a majority still support them but feel major change will need to happen if they are to survive as a firm.

As for their Train tour, providing it met all covid safety rules which it is claimed it did, then where is the problem? Were their actions crossing borders any more dangerous than say a travelling salesman going about his or her work?
The don't HAVE to live in a goldfish bowl though- they can leave anytime they like- unlike us commoners who actually need to work for a living. We only see what they want us to see. Nothing more. And if we fall on hard times and ask the state for help WE are called the scroungers.

Bearing in mind they wanted to escape the spotlight they seem to be doing a lot to stay in it.
they want to live their lives the way they want to, be authentic to their beliefs....I mean why should anyone be denied that? Good luck to them. They rejected the stifled corruption of royalty and are doing what they want with their lives, without us directly paying for it. Sadly they need royal protection still, but that's not their fault.

It wasn't intelligence it was based on an understanding of complex topics such as brexit, I hypothesised that a simple test of the key points where your vote was weighted down if you didn't understand what you were on about would have given a very different result. Lets be honest here, the vast majority of brexiteers didn't even know that trade deals were a thing 5 years ago. It was also a temporary measure until we get political studies as a standard part of the national curriculum. I mean a vote is really only meaningful if people understand what they are voting for or against.

But back on point, play the ball not the man. Royalty is a good case in point. They have traditionally been supported by the people despite them being nothing but a financial drain on society, corrupt beyond measure, and far from benign. Prince Andrew is a great case in point, so is Prince Charles and his lobbying of government ministers and senior civil servants through his black spider letters. They're poisonous.

Bit Hard and harsh that post so I withdrew it, its never going tp change really, the people are very much like the Japanese people were pre surrender WW2.

If the royal family ended tomorrow it would not change my life one jot.

But to me it gives lots of pleasure, seems petty to change.

Another example where this place is out of kilter with the UK.

In my wife's twice a week zoom meeting with her friends I doubt Brexit' has been mentioned once in six months, kids, TV, Covid and the Royal Family most of the tine.
Life on the edge, eh? Fair enough, can't say mine's that much more exciting especially as I work full time and not a lot for frivolity.

indirectly it would as they wouldn't be syphoning off the public purse and abusing their position to drive culture. Culture flows down from the top. so if you are in the upper classes it would be the start of the dismantling of your inherited wealth, if you are not, it would be a greater opportunity for a fair return on your efforts in life. It would take decades and great planning and control to get these benefits though, but they're real even if you don't recognise them.

I have said this before, Inheritance tax should be at least 60%, most if it is based on house inflation. Screwing the gentry would be a good start. If they say it's a painting take two in three off them .

What was the loco hauling the carriages?

67006 – Royal Sovereign provided the pic on the Daily Mail site is actually from this trip and not a stock pic.

Rather makes me wonder, are these 2 locomotives - 67005 Queen's Messengers' the other one, above - exclusively for Royal duties? Bit of an extravagance if they are considering how much they're used. Part for the course I suppose, no expense spared. Our expense that is.
