People have been saying the end of the British Royal Family is coming since the French got rid of theirs almost 250 years ago. They are still here and will still be here long after we are nothing but dust.

Interested to read that Harry and Meg are planning what is being referred to as their own “Honours” system, like the Queen’s Birthday and New Year’s Honours, to recognise people who do good works that fit-in with Harry and Meg’s beliefs and opinions.

All Empires fall don’t they? It’s just a matter of time. Admittedly it very probably won’t be after the Queen croaks but eventually it will run its course, surely.

Bearing in mind they wanted to escape the spotlight they seem to be doing a lot to stay in it.

Charles and Camilla have very successfully reinvented themselves after Diana. Chas could live to be 100 like his gran and, probably, his mother.

William looks like he will be a popular, intelligent and and pretty streetwise Prince of Wales and, eventually, king. Kate is hugely popular with old and young and playing the part of future Queen perfectly.

They will probably take the monarchy to 2080, after that it’s up to George,
 
I personally think that to##er Andrew has done them mega damage . It infuriates me how he is off the hook as The Royal Family plc probably done a ‘deal‘ to get media off his back .

Put any parliamentarian up against say Prince William, my guess would be a 80/20 pro William outcome.

Let people enjoy themselves it all harmless.

Hmmm I beg to differ there . It’s not exactly harmless living a lavish lifestyle when many ’ subjects ‘ are living hand to mouth . I respect the Queen but I’d kick the rest of them so far up the proverbial they wouldn’t know what him them . The nations biggest benefits family .

TBH I dunno why people give the Queen such an easy ride. It is cos she’s a frail old woman? She’s no different to the rest. **** all of them. Have quite enjoyed the Netflix series though. About the best thing they’ve contributed to the nation imho, and it was nothing to do with them of course.
 
Belongs in the dark ages, bowing and grovelling to a random family , regardless of character and suitability for such a rule is just a bit silly.
Prince Andrew for example should be reason enough to quietly let them go like nearly every other country has
 
I would not call it a privileged life, living in such a goldfish bowl. There are plenty of people that recognise the good they do. I agree people like Andrew have set their cause back and probably speeded up their demise. Harry imho has too.

I have always been a monarchist on balance as I think the pomp adds value to the country. However, looking at some of their shenanigans, I think that their existence in its current form is harder to justify. If the UK breaks up, then I can see huge changes taking place. Just because a few like minded opinionated folk on a distant message board want them scrapped does not mean the whole country would. I think a majority still support them but feel major change will need to happen if they are to survive as a firm.

As for their Train tour, providing it met all covid safety rules which it is claimed it did, then where is the problem? Were their actions crossing borders any more dangerous than say a travelling salesman going about his or her work?
 
they had the opportunity when william/kate and harry/meghan were photographed together. something to build back popularity but that has gone so wrong it's unreal! the prince andrew thing takes the biscuit for me.
 
They've set an example that it's safe to travel across different tiers safely. There'll be plenty copying the clown's this weekend.

The country is like Donald Trump, mature in years, immature in attitude. It will be a long time before it's ready to have done with the utterly ridiculous idea of monarchy.

Another example where this place is out of kilter with the UK.

In my wife's twice a week zoom meeting with her friends I doubt Brexit' has been mentioned once in six months, kids, TV, Covid and the Royal Family most of the tine.
