Has anyone see the supposed dog - the beast ! . Absolutely horrifying dog . Poor little kid would not have stood a chance . Totally continues the debate for me on dog ownership laws . Who on earth needs a dog like that ….. you would never feel safe

Agreed, weighed 8 stone, had already attacked other animals.

At that size I doubt anyone could control it if it turned nasty - no place for them as pets

Jeez what a monster, horrendous all round. I wouldn’t leave any dog alone with a kid, not even my sisters sossage dog and it’s a lovely animal. Poor familly to lose a child like that.

Horrifying way to go. My wife says it was in the house so it's difficult to pass legislation for that.

I agree not particularly suitable as a family pet, but how do you legislate on size. It is the same species as a yorkie or retriever.

An awful situation, and you really feel for the family
But, dont look to far from the owner. So many people who have these type of dogs see them as an extension of themselves, and how 'hard' they are.
As a dog person, I also have some sympathy for dogs, they didnt ask to be bred or raised like this.

My view is that the owner should carry the can and be treated as if he had killed the poor young lad.

Anyone who owns a dog like that is an absolute psycho and deserves locking up.
That would have to be the case with every dog. I see the sense in it, but sometimes owners would get caught up in less obvious events.

What type of dog is it? I've seen the pic on BBC website and it looks evil.

A bloke near me has 2 similar dogs and when he takes them on the fields all the other people disappear. They are huge and I'd say not exactly under control. Scary

It’s heat breaking . I doubt an adult would have stood a chance as others have said . Totally Agree this should be punished as if the owner attacked.

I think it was an American pit bull which are banned in the UK.

I honestly don’t see why anyone would want to own something like that. I had a terrier, soft as anything. It was like a lottery walking it on the beach. I’ve had to welly loads of dogs out of control, I thought I’d lost him one day when a pillock had a Rottweiler(incidentally a dog I like) off its lead. This however puts that into real perspective, a 10 year old boy mailed like that. Poor kid.
if that happened to mine my response would be biblical. RIP

Police doing DNA tests to see if this is the case.
That's the problem crossed with another breed of pitbull it may become legal.

There are states in the US where 3 people have to identify a dog as a pitbull and it is destroyed.

Usually one to blame the owners not the dog, but why on earth would anyone want a dog like that? If one day it attacks for no reason you have absolutely no chance
