The pandemic rages on while our 'government' do nothing

When I was in hospital a couple of weeks ago I was swabbed for covid as I was potentially staying in overnight. It's protocol for those staying in a a bed. Luckily I didn't need to be kept in and I didn't test positive but had I tested positive I would have gone on the list as a covid patient in hospital yes?
No

Righto, in what way was he not admitted to hospital? Genuine interest, surely any procedure in a hospital is a hospital admission that will be recorded.
No it’s people who have been admitted that are counted ie those who have been given a bed. If you went to A&E feeling unwell and tested positive for covid, but were sent home, that wouldn’t count against the figures.

OK, well I didn't know that, interesting

Except vaccine effectiveness has waned to the point where the vast majority of the population are now effectively unvaccinated. And the boosters in October are only for those over 50.

So if you are under 50, and not CEV, it doesn't matter if they tweak the vaccines as you won't be getting it.

Problematic huh?

I highly doubt in terms of hospitalisation , no . In terms of transmission , highly probable . Vaccine effectiveness in terms of transmission was significantly reduced with omicron , but not in terms of hospitalisation .

Vaccines will be tweaked for mutations . When the over 50s get their winter jab I imagine they will get new vaccines that are tailored to new strains

For the vaccine effectiveness in terms of hospitalisation to fall so much the antigen would have to change so much it would almost have to be like a new virus, I would imagine .

At the end of the day, I’m happy to have a new vaccine whenever it’s needed. If twice or even 6 times a year so be it. I don’t think it’s ethical to expect people to live under restrictions indefinitely though. For all the talk of restrictions saving lives , they are seriously impacting the livelihoods of other people . We’ve also incurred a huge debt from paying people to sit at home that needs paying off too

The current hospitalisation figures would beg to differ.

Deaths too. Delta took 7 months to kill the same number of people who died from Omicron in 6 months.

The mild narrative is a myth.

The numbers in intensive care would suggest this is far milder and the vaccine/antiviral treatments are effective

Hospital numbers aren’t really reliable as you don’t really know much about the background. Patients in intensive care or on ventilation is the most important indicator and both numbers remain very low and haven’t really moved much in months

And the deaths? Mild deaths?

Again like the situation with hospitalisations is it deaths with covid or deaths because of covid. Looking at the ICU data and people on ventilators it would suggest that deaths with covid as the only reason are likely minimal at present

Higher levels of infections will make hospitalisations and deaths looks far worse than the situation actually is, but regardless it looks like this wave has peaked already

This is a long(ish) read but perfectly sums up the reality of life for the CEV population. That there are some on here, and in the wider population, who just shrug and say well it's as good as it gets, should be a source of shame to them. It isn't of course as they don't have that level of self awareness.

Don't start with the 'with or from' rubbish please. Covid is not mentioned on a death certificate unless it has been the cause of death or a significant contributory factor.

If someone is in hospital and tests positive for covid, but dies of a completely unrelated cause, then covid is not put on the death certificate and it doesn't count in the covid deaths figure.
