The morning after! ...

Time to put it all behind us.

It was an awful game for us in truth, a good opening 10 mins or so but as soon as they settled into the game we were pretty much out of it.

Frustratingly we were our own worst enemies - no point beating ourselves up about it, we know thats how Carrick wants us to play and we got away with it in the first leg. We were severely punished this time for any tiny bit of sloppiness, and thats the difference.

Very sobering!

The positives for me are the first leg, and to an extent the Villa game. Lets focus on the level we can play at for periods against some of the best players in the world. Some good individual performaces in those games that should give the club real confidence in the squad and the plan, i.e. Van Den Berg, Engel, Barlaser, Hackney, Jones - really stepped up.

Now its time to knuckle down and hammer the mackems again. Full steam ahead for a play off push now. Realistically 2 places are up for grabs - lets make sure one of them is ours!

The positive is we have some proper time to prepare the team before the Mackem game. It’s been a nonstop slog for the players at times.

Chelsea away was always going to be impossible for Boro. The gulf in class was obvious even if we did make it easy for them with mistakes.

Agree. We’re slowly getting players back. Hopefully they stay fit and we can get some consistency in the team. I’m not convinced we’ll make 6th but we can give it a go.

Thats all we can do my good man.

The league has been brutal this season, and with the overhaul of squad if we can challenge until the death for a playoff spot its been a positive season for me.

We move on. It's done, it was a good run. We gave Villa a tough game recently and beat Chelsea at home. I'll take the positives from that and look forward to the next league game.
