The Lenihan deal shows Wilder is the right man for the Boro job

For the league we were in for the majority of his time here, Ayala was outstanding and an awesome return on the club's outlay for him.

Agreed he struggled in the Prem somewhat, but I can't think of his overall time here as anything but a positive. As such whilst not an accomplished Premier League quality centre-back by far, how the hell likely is it we attract one of those in the championship?

The best two have been as others have said Gibson and Chambers. One developed from within and the other a loan whilst in the top flight.

In the period between him being linked with the Burnley job, and him categorically ruling himself out of it, we won 2, drew 1, lost 1.

The Preston defeat was after he had publicly and emphatically committed himself to Middlesbrough.
We got our backsides handed to us by Huddersfield at home in the middle of it and prior to Dyche's sacking, Wilder was sat in the chairman's box just before our defeat at home by Hull.

But as I have said above, it is a feeling I have that there is something not right about him. I am not saying I am right and have mentioned I hope I am wrong about him. I just can't get behind him 100% and I have felt like this since he took over.

Edit: I am sure there is a footballer that you don't like that others do.

Ipad - I think you know what I mean by that.

That's already been discredited as not being the case.
It was Simon Jordan being a **** stirrer for attention on TalkSport.

Every Burnley home game occurred at the exact same time as a Boro match, with the exception of their game against Tottenham on the 23rd of February, and that was the game he attended.
That was 6 days before we were due to face Tottenham in the FA Cup, you would fully expect Wilder to take the opportunity to watch his next opponent.

The Hull match was 6 weeks later.

I know what you meant by it and tbf the Burnley uncertainty gave a lot of people uneasiness so you're hardly alone on that score. But a massive amount of managers get linked to other clubs when performing well the same as any player would. I'd definitely agree that he could have handled it better however.

I'd argue though that the period between interest and his speaking out publicly (including the whopping at the hands of Hudds?) during this otherwise decent run wasn't what cost us a place in the playoffs, it was more the chucking of games we really should have used for hoovering up points, eg; Barnsley and others.

If that is the case, I stand corrected but it doesn't change the fact that I feel there is something not right about him and I am not the only one.

You've just said you've felt there's something not right about him since the moment he signed, so obviously something that did or did not happen afterwards isn't going to change that.

I'm sure you're not the only one now though, plenty of people took deep offense to his poor handling of the situation with the Burnley links.
Hell hath no fury like a Boro fan scorned.

Apparently Wilder has been an admirer of Lenihan's for a while, long before he came our manager.
he's a very good CB, according to whoscored he is the 3rd best CB in the league Helik at Barnsley was top (probably partially due to the sheer amount of defending he had to do), then it's Hutchinson at Millwall, then a sliver behind those 2 is Lenihan.

Our best regular CB in those whoscored ratings is McNair who is 21st best

We have needed a left sided center back capable of defending and bringing the ball out of defence for god knows how long.
Now as soon as a right sided defender who doesn't bring the ball out becomes available we jump on it.
Hope we are still looking for that LCB given that we will now have 4 right footed centre backs again.
Given that we have so many other positions to fill I find it a strange signing unless of course one of Fry, McNair or Dijksteel to depart.

We play 3 CBs - Fry/d*ck/Mcnair
Going into next season we only have 1 cover player Hall (Pelt/Bamba have all departed)

so how is signing a CB a strange signing?!

What an incredibly silly post.

Signing another right sided center back is strange if we are keeping Fry, McNair and Dijksteel when we obviously need left sided center backs, probably 2, 1 who can cover full back as well
What an incredibly silly post.

Sorry forgot everyone on here has to agree with everything you say.
Its a message board mate I am expressing my opinion if that's ok with you.

Not at all. It’s just a silly post. We have signed a player to start in the team. What’s wrong with that?
