The Exam Situation

Absolute and utter shambles. We have known for 5 months this was coming and right up to yesterday there were twists and turns.
Of course, the privileged few were bound to be ok so no real reason to put any effort into it.

We knew Covid was coming, was highly contagious and our PM was shaking hands with patients.

I can handle the ’haven’t got an idea’ in normal circumstances.
When it is driven by ‘because our lot will be ok‘ it sickens me

Hi BM welcome to the restricted club. My account has been like it since day 1. FatCat has also posted in the past his account is restricted too. When he did some posters stated it was a conspiracy theory against admin. Borolad advised their are algerhythems (I know that’s spelt wrong) built into the board to slow down and put off potential unwanted or troublesome posters. The fact it’s me you and FatCat on the list gives an idea of what that might be.

The only way round it is to wipe your browsing history after you post which will log you out and then the board work fine, it’s when you try log in you get some problems. Once you post you will need to delete the browsing history again. Ridiculous really but that’s the way

I was never out. I am restricted, not banned. Everything is slowed to a snails pace so I wouldn't be able to keep up in an active conversation so it's not worth the effort.

It was only a matter of time before technology advanced so far it became discerning.

Ps

Wonder how Eton and Harrow got on compared to stockton, middlesbrough and hartlepool??

I guess another thing that is crap is that because top public schools always get good grades, they won't have been marked down as much. If you're in a sixth form college that usually doesn't perform great, but you happen to be in an exceptional year group (it does happen), then you're more likely to have been stitched up by this.

Eton and Harrow are bound to have done well though, because both schools are highly selective. As well as being rich, you have to be pretty smart to get in in the first place. If you are bright enough to pass your Common Entrance exam to Eton or Harrow, you're highly likely to be smart enough to get good A level grades by the time you're in the sixth form. That's partly why top public schools get so many kids in to Oxford & Cambridge.... because they select the brainiest 11-13 year olds.

That said, both Eton and Harrow (and many other UK Public schools) offer a number of 100% bursaries to bright kids from disadvantaged backgrounds. This happens much more these days than it used to 30 years ago, which is a positive step.

So there you have it kids and parents. The 5th Baron Bethell, hereditary peer, who attended Harrow and Edinburgh University, and who is now Minister of Innovation at the Department of Health and Social Care (test and trace apps, anyone?) says it'll all be fine in the end as hustlers gotta hustle.

You couldn't make it up could you.

Its just absolutely unbelievable what this government is doing to the UK.

This bloke bethel sounds like a complete pr*ck.

Yet all we hear is it
Would be worse under corbyn or starmer

Really??

Ps I always thought Alan b'stard was far fetched. Obviously not.

Toby Young didn’t get the grades he needed and that taught him to be a grifter too. Although it also helped getting into Oxford thanks to a phone call from Daddy.

My daughter has been let down. Her teachers have been in touch and confirmed that they are appealing as the grades go against her mocks and teacher input.
It is truly shocking and I feel for a level leavers, gcse leavers and those going into last year secondary having had 6 months off.
We’ve let a generation down but atleast we got the pubs open and half price meals.
Shocking shocking decisions
It should be straight forward as with the triple lock her mock grades can be chosen. Hopefully it’s as straight forward as suggested.

My godson had an A star recommended by his teacher and in his mock - he was given a B.

He has submitted an appeal.

However he has applied to the university today online (his teacher has supported the application with some comments on the application) the uni came back an hour later and phoned him with an offer of a place.

Seems like the Unis have at least got their act together and are being fairly flexible and pragmatic.
