The Exam Situation

They had some on TV this morning who got all A* One person got better than projected from what she said and one poor lass who needed 3xA got 1xA and 2xB. How the feck can that be possible to do better than teacher projected, some had no mark down and some biggish mark down.

I know it is hard to be accurate, but the government had 5 months to sort it and as usual we have a mess. Scottish pupils get treated differently to the rest of the UK. The teacher projections showed a 12% improvement which was clearly wrong mind so moderation was needed.

Universities being keen to get their money in will likely be lenient as less foreign students are likely to attend, so hopefully students get their uni and course of choice anyway. Feel for the kids though as some employers may treat the class of 2020 results with suspicion. Hopefully those wanting degrees will prove their worth anyway.

No problem if the 12% improvement was too much but then surely EVERYONE’S grades/marks could have been lowered by say 6% or so and not selective schools/areas as has been done.

Shambolic. Once again this government making it up as they go along. My son thankfully got what he needed for his preferred university, but all the u turns and mixed messages over the past 48 hours have added to what is already a stressful time for all involved. I really struggle to see why they couldn't have actually run the exams, from my memory you are fairly socially distanced in an exam hall anyway!

I‘d bet Tory controlled council areas will have generally come off somewhat better than Labour ones too, purely by chance of course

The worst part of this is the so called triple lock allowing you to base your grade in your mock under appeal - well the appeals process is not in place yet due to the late timing of this decision.

Seems a lot of in fighting as well due to the way this has been handled” amid further confusion ofqual said it would no longer attend a press conference with the joint council for qualifications this morning - before later saying officials would indeed attend”

Bit of a shambles all round.

These things will not be forgotten, I know it won’t help these poor pupils now but in the long run, it is a massive nail in the Tory coffin.

How long can we just keep bouncing from utter shambles to utter chaos, before even the most die hard Tories say ‘yeah....we are making a right Royal pigs ear of running the country at the minute.’
Anybody on here who has the audacity to come along and say the usual ‘it’s just lefty liberal loonies on here that are looking for problems and Tory bashing’ (as we see written here time after time) needs to take their head out of their **** and smell the coffee.

I think that's a just massive assumption with absolutely no
reason to it other than to suit your political bias...

They should have just followed the teachers grade assessments so what if grade inflation one year is at 12% does it really matter to me its is far fairer than downgrading 40% especially in such tough circumstances

The figures I saw said that more students got A* and A this year AND more students got A-C grades than last year

My son says that in his friends groups across several colleges, those who were A and A* students have received these, but for those below that it has been a real mixed bag.

That gap has just got a lot wider....feel for the kids in the less affluent schools who have worked their ar$es off.

Secondary School education has been poor for a lot of years, it was awful when i was there about 15 years ago, shambles back then, shambles now

Lucky i got to uni and did well, but yeah it's all geared up for the elite and middle-classes to excel
