The end of cricket as we know and love it

I hope there is still a place for Red ball cricket.
The new cricket supporter needs instant gratification and big blast action though. There's no getting away from that.

It's definitely not helping the situation. Although I feel it will be the 50 over stuff that's going to go first.

It was interesting listing to Morgan the other week. He was saying how a T20 'specialist' can effectively play T20 cricket (including the 100) all year round. They can litteraly finish one franchise tournament and start another the following month. Just moving from one country to another making themselves millionaires overnight.

So you can see how test cricket could become a '2nd thought' to a young developing cricketer who 'hits hard'.

That's said its refreshing to here many players still showing the love for test cricket. I loved the recent Ben Stokes interview where he was very passionate about it. I can comfortably watch test cricket and franchise. I like how we are saturated with cricket. Yet can see the 'issue' further down the line.

It’s been mooted that only certain countries will play test cricket. Seems more likely the ODIs will be culled rather than the longer format.

The ECB has already effectively relegated 50 over county games to reserve team fixtures, so I think that will be the first to go. When you see crowds of close to 6000 at York for what was a 2nd XI game it is a shame, but there is no way the current fixture schedule can stay.

Even in England the red ball game only has a couple of games at the height of summer but at least this is a slight improvement on previous years.

I prefer test matches but enjoy the 50 and 20 over games too.
It's good to watch players developing/adapting their skills to different formats but I don't see any long term future for the red ball format, other than games involving England people just don't want to watch it live.
A t20 game can be exciting , as with all formats it's about setting up a close finish rather than a one sided game , sadly the 50 over format seems to produce more one sided games especially lately where the team batting second has a big advantages
