* The [early] Unofficial "Official" Birmingham City v Boro Match - Day Thread *

Maddo, it doesnt matter if its an OG or not, if Connelly wasnt there to challenge the through ball their keeper would have collected it

1-0 to the mighty Boro

Where we’re those points against Millwall, Barnsley, Bristol & Sheff Utd then?

Were we helped by our non-scoring/hard-working strikers? Didn’t think so.

Call me old fashioned, but a strikers job is to score, and ours don’t.
You can’t expect to win every game. Strange how you flagged that up, not the wins in the league in addition to the two wins against top 6 sides in the prem.

Look at the average points per game, since wilder came in.

You are old fashioned, it’s not 1980 anymore. Every formation now requires far more from players than the assumed single attribute. Single attributes don’t win games now, it’s far more complicated.

Should defenders only be able to tackle? What about midfielders, should they be only expected to pass?

Need to press their backline when they are in possession, none of them look comfortable on the ball there's deffo a mistake or two in them.

I've just seen this: -

3 Middlesbrough v Chelsea
5.15pm, Saturday 19 March
Referee: Paul Tierney
Assistant Referees: Lee Betts & James Mainwaring
Fourth Official: Robert Jones
VAR: Darren England
AVAR: Wade Smith

It was clearly offside so no complaints there but I don't understand what took so long. Balogun could've been injured from that last ditch tackle when the ball should've been dead. It's not like we have VAR and a directive to wait and review on this league. That's was just plain old incompetence.
Must have got a call from the 4th official or someone. Correct decision but holplessly implemented.
Poor game good result so far. Missed goal as my takeaway came at that point😭

Nought wrong with the 80's 😡

Their LB is on a yellow - get the ball to Jones! Not that refs ever seem to give second yellows to our opposition these days.

The FA have licenced all ties to have VAR in place for quarter-finals ties.
That means VAR will be used in all of the last eight ties, even beyond the Premier League clubs.
