The Djed Spence hot potato

To be fair imagine coming off the back of a top class season getting a dream move and the moment you join the manager says he didn't sign you or want you.

I get it's a 3rd loan move he's onto now and a different manager in charge of his club, I actually think he'd suit spurs kind of football now, but they clearly hadn't planned squad wise to have him back this season.

He does need a strong manager though, who will put his arm around him and just make him feel loved and there's a prem player in there.

Well maybe he or his agent should've checked that before signing?

He wouldn't talk to anyone but Spurs, which probably affected how much we got for him as it significantly weakened our negotiating position (along with the fact he made it clear he wasn't coming back). In hindsight still an amazing fee mind.

He's not good enough to justify the amount of time and effort required to mollycoddle him in the hope of getting a tune out of him.

If he's not having smoke blown up his **** and playing every week, sounds like the toys quickly go out the pram. Very few coaches can be bothered dealing with that in their squad.

It will likely do him some good, I’d heard one of the major issues when he was with us was the influence some of his d1ck head mates had over him.

It was probably why spurs sent him to France for the back end of last season.

Hard pushed to name a better sale from Boro in 50 years of supporting us
Brad jones
Two more that came to my mind:
Alan Kernaghan £1m (?) - a lot in 1993
Joe Bennett £3m

Looking further back, getting a British transfer record fee for David Mills was decent business as well.
Although the record didn't last for long as Trevor Francis became the first £1m player a couple of weeks later.

He's having a nice little tour, just another contractor who's fallen on his feet.

He's not the first and isn't going to be the last. Peter Davenport anyone?

Bit harsh on Davenport. He was excellent for Forest, decent for Man Utd...…and then he came to us.
After we offloaded him to Sunderland he ended up on a journey of free transfers around the lower leagues and Scotland.
Spence will probably end up the same way but hasn't achieved anything like Davenport did in his early years.
