The difference in our club

It's been 3 proper windows under Kieran Scott and I've got to say the way the club is being ran has improved drastically in the professionalism with regards to the way we deal with transfers.

It became a running joke amongst the fanbase that when we were linked to a player it'd be 'Thats him to Villa then '
The players we were linked with were all over our local rags, splashed everywhere and more often than not they went somewhere else.

Enter Kieran Scott.

Players barely linked or not at all before a deal is struck and they're at Rockliffe for a medical. Knowing when to give up when a pursuit is to expensive and time consuming. It's simple things, but it's things out club lacked until he walked through the door.

Long may it continue, it's exciting

True - and last January was the first time in a very long time we successfully used the loan market I thought. Normally these youngsters from 'big' clubs are at other championship clubs pulling up trees and the ones we get in barely play - and you are sat there thinking "why cant we get the effective ones in?" which we did in January.

However, the proof will be in the pudding, on the pitch this season whether the young, bags of potential style of transfers we look to be going for this summer is the right option.

As we know championship is ruthless so there are no guarantees!

However, back to your original point - absolutely agree, we seem to be a much slicker outfit, after a few dated tenures the last few years!

Not having a go at the OP, but it's interesting how the view on Scott and MFC has changed since we started winning games.

Not too long ago the experts on here said club was "rotten to the core" and Scott was "a waste of time" and had "delivered nothing we didn't have before"

This window definitely has a different feel to it. Encouraging given Carrick worked miracles with what looked like a very average squad under Wilder.

It’s what a lot of the fans have been crying out for over a number of seasons too.

Can’t get too ahead of ourselves just yet, and success will ultimately judged by results on the pitch but I’m much happier taking this approach than trying to sign over the hill has-beens on massive wages.

We seem to be operating under the radar though and with the younger players we’re targeting, Carrick and opportunity for regular first team football can only be a big draw for them. Roll on August!

Is 'winning games' not the objective, and a result of everyone doing a good job - Manager, Players, Recruitment etc?

You're absolutely spot on, it was an excellent window. What impressed me the most was there was a rumour of Archer then it was done, nothing at all about Ramsey before he signed and with Barlaser we had the patience and basically forced Rotherham's hand. Mightily impressive. More bang for your back and the Sky Sports guy who broke the Van Den Berg news said we're targeting alot of top class young players.

I know we'll have to be patient as they develop, but they're going to be exciting to watch grow with us and possibly keep our club running smoothly for many a year!

If we start the season like we did last year under wilder they'll be for the chopping block again. However I do feel this transfer strategy is correct if you sign multiple promising young players surly 1 or 2 will fulfill there potential then your profiting

So the club was "rotten to the core" and Scott "was a waste of space" but as we've won a few games all that has been forgotten and changed ?

Remarkable turnaround in a few months, almost like the original statements were ridiculous hyperbole by a group of adults acting like spoilt children and couldn't see the bigger picture......

But again is that not justified - if we are not winning games, something has gone wrong ... so its then up to the club to determine which bit is broken. i.e. Recruitment? Training? etc

I agree re: the opinions on Scott.

It’s a typical football fan thing though. After Sheff Utd win we were Barcelona.

After losing to Rotherham we were a conference side.

There’s similar reactions on the cricket related threads when England are doing well / losing. People get lost in the emotions of victory and defeat.

I used to suffer a lot from that but overall try to think more pragmatically these days and look at the bigger picture. Certainly helps with the highs and lows, often aided by a few post match beers to celebrate / soften the blow of defeats! 😄

Exactly my point, as soon as anything goes wrong fingers will be pointed at the usual suspects - it was Lamb for a long while (despite the relative success) and then Bausor (whose name seems to crop up less and less on this board these days interestingly enough).

I think any fan that's sensible understands that this is going to be a long term project hopefully with relatively quick success. I've had people complain to me about lack of action this window but I just had a feeling after January we are no longer that club that loses out on every player, we're the ones turning the heads.
Van Den Berg was on the verge of Roma in January and some of the very biggest clubs wanted him. That alone is a huge win for our new regime

But you dont change things like recruitment in the space of 2 or 3 months, things like that take years to turn around. If something is "rotten to the core" then you dont make it all good in the space of a few games.

I'm not sure who you are quoting there?

But all I'm saying is if over a sustained period (Carricks tenure) we have won games, and the players brought into the club have actively contributed, then are not all parts of the club 'working' and should be praised?

If we weren't, and games were lost and the players brought in were terrible then yes, criticism is going to be aimed at the areas to blame.

You get them everywhere mate, idiots. Any fan with any kind of football brain knew it would take time to sort it out. You don't just change a culture over night. He's brought scouts he trusts and now has a manager he actually wants to work with. It's looking rosie

Totally agree about the long term project.

We live in a world where people want instant gratification though, that’s the only issue.

Gibson was making so many mistakes and bad appointments. He needed someone to come in and make decisions that are best for Boro.Appointing Scott is the best decision he has made for along time he's come in and getting things spot on so far.Long may it continue.

It's clearly all nonsense. I'm not going to have a go at Scott and co. but they are as yet to deliver on much. Our squad is really no better than when he took over. Majority of our improvements have been from loan players. He's also had some stinkers. The "Connolly window" as I'm calling it was a disaster. We spent all last summer talking about £10m strikers and then didn't sign one so I'm not sure you can claim any kind of discretion either. The reason there has been not many links from the players we are looking at this season is because nobody has heard of them.

Some people just get carried away. The same people will be calling for his head when we don't spend big and we're not challenging for promotion at xmas.
