The Dark Side of the Moon

One of my absolutely favourite bands. I strongly believe The Wall is in the top 3 albums ever made. It is their best album by some distance.

I DO like Pink Floyd but I really don't get Dark Side.
Another I've tried a few times and don't get is The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. Pete Wylie's Pete Sounds is so much better.

I wasn't born when the album came out, but I am a big fan of Pink Floyd and listen to them most days. I think Dark side of the Moon is the first album where you get a glimpse of the band Pink Floyd will become.
In my opinion before Dark side of the moon they where a 60s psychedelic band with elements of rock, with Dark side of the moon they switched to a rock band with elements of psychedelic. I think it is a transitional album where you get to hear the band which Pink Floyd will become and a change of direction towards the great Pink Floyd albums Wish you Where here, The Wall and Final Cut.

Dark Side of the Moon, like The Wall, belongs to its era.

But there is no getting away from it being a timeless masterpiece, a work of genius.

It was worth doing for the lyrics to Eclipse alone.

Pink Floyd’s best individual song is Wish You Were Here.

In my opinion of course.

I think The Wall would stand up in any era, apart from possibly parts of In The Flesh. It is an absolute masterpiece on every level.

Agree, when I said belongs to its era I meant that I can’t see any present day band being able to come up with the likes of dark side of the moon and the wall and I’m also not sure todays younger generation tastes would embrace that style of music.

Yeah, I absolutely agree. Sadly the days of the concept album/rock opera appear long dead

While I love the bulk of Pet Sounds there is enough average tracks to stop it being a bona fide classic. "Pet Sounds" "Here Today" "I'm Waiting for the Day" and I would possibly put "I Know There's an Answer" into that group. But when its good its outstanding.
