The Chuba Akpom Appreciation Thread

Record breaker, top scorer, player of the season.. turned it all around after being thrown on the scrap heap.

Statue worthy.. a genuine bona fide boro legend

Sheffield United can't afford him.. messing around with a piddling £10m bid?
£12m + £2m is enough to land Gus Hamer from Coventry.. stick to your land Sheffield!

Ajax are a great club with a great history.. but no, Chuba Akpom is too good for the Erdervise,
Brighton have bought Mohammed Kudus for £35m.. no 10.. no 29.. but they are not pulling out the fat crispies

RC Lens the story that has dragged on throughout the summer.. translating French tweets to reveal their ideal number 9
£43m burning a hole in their pocket to replace Loïs Openda £8m +£1m add ons is not going to cut it

as a French acquaintance said to me recently Akpom 12-13M c’est très très propre

as hard as it might seem.. he does pay for this season's incomings..

Seny Dieng
Tom Glover
Jamie Jones
Alex Gilbert
Morgan Rogers
Rave Van Den Berg
Sam Silvera
Terrell Agyemang
Daniel Nkrumah
Lukas Engel
Emmanuel Latte Lath
and one other..

I know we all love him, but saying stuff like "he's too good for the Eredivisie" is madness. Lest we forget he wasn't exactly setting the world alight in the Greek Superleague, nor anywhere else in his career until last season. Ajax are an infinitely more prestigious club than us, and better players than Chuba have and will continue to sign for them in future. There is no "too good for the Eredivisie" here.

They're not in the champions league next season

So? Neither are we, neither are Sheffield United. He's not suddenly a Champions League standard striker off the back of one good season in his career in the Championship. I think any striker of his level would jump at the chance to go to Ajax.

Ajax turnover is c£120m, so a bottom of the PL level.
They could easily pay a good fee for Chuba and a good wage.
There would prestige for him and a move to the PL (better than Sheff U) if he does well there.

I would love Archer back , can't see it unless it's a loan .
I upped it to 5 .
No loans in yet , so doable .

I've jacked our transfer kitty up from £3.5m to take up my inflated fees for Engel and Lath.. Bola departing big loan fees from last year being reduced perhaps an extra milly.. ish

INS
12 Lukas Engel - Silkeborg - £1.5m
31 Bashir Humphreys - Chelsea - Loan
9 Cameron Archer - Aston Villa - £15m
28 Charlie Patino - Arsenal - Loan
24 Emmanuel Latte Lath - Atalanta - £3m

OUTS
15 Anfernee Dijksteel - QPR - £1m
17 Paddy McNair - Luton Town - £5m
29 Chuba Akpom - Sheff Utd - £12m
20 Martin Payero - Boca Juniors - £2m
13 Matthew Hoppe - San Jose Earthquakes - Loan

But then we potentially have extra monies coming in.. Akpom & McNair's fees might be enough to cover Cameron Archers fee? He was £8m in January.. still hasnt had full season in the Championship.. not part of Aston Villa's plans. Gotta be there or thereabouts..

He could of gone down as an all time great. Sad end
He could have, but we treated him as worse than dirt for two years so it's the inevitable end.

I'd love to see him stay for another year regardless of losing any potential transfer fee as he's the best footballer at the club (alongside Howson) and see where we get to but we've got to recognise where we are as a club financially.

I hope he stays and we agree a new contract but playing for someone like Ajax is what he's earned.

For a player with no connection to the area, becoming an all time great at an average championship club can’t really compare to playing in the champions league, or playing for a club like Ajax probably for double his current wages. He would be daft not to go at this stage of his career
