The Christmas song you can't stand

The two Christmas songs that I really don't like, I don't like because of sloppy lyrics.

The first is Chris de Burgh with A Spaceman Came Travelling:

A spaceman came traveling on his ship from afar
'Twas light years of time since his mission did start.

I mean light years of time? Are you really going to leave that in?

The second is Do They Know it's Christmas:
The only water flowing is the bitter sting of tears
Sting isn't a type of water, grrrrr.

And there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas time...
Better warn the Ski resorts then.

I'm a grinch, me.

I am a huge Beatles fan but I absolutely detest Wonderful Christmastime. Paul must have just known he could put only old ***** out at that stage and people would buy it for Christmas.
It’s not his very best work, but I always feel a bit tearful when I hear it - I remember the video so vividly from being a kid and associate it subconsciously with how much paul mc loved linda and how devastated he was when she passed away so young. Seeing the kids in the video all so happy together. I suppose Christmas has loads of those sad associations the older you get.

The “old classics” seem to wear thin these days and only a few are still listenable but the worst of the lot is Simply Having a Wonderful Xmas Time by Paul McCartney on a par with the equally obnoxiously wailing from current no 1 Mariah Carey

edit I see Wham are now at No 1

Absolutely all of them, especially those in shops that are only played to make you join in with this commercialised nonsense. Sentimental clap trap. Humbug!
