The 20 Most Depressing Town Centres to Live

I live in Swindon nos 5 on the list. I can confirm that it is absolutely dire. A lot more than 3% would say it is horrible, but most of the inhabitants of the town wouldnt enter the town centre.
I moved away for a few years and returned after Covid, I couldnt believe how far it had gone down in that time.

Based on walking around Peterborough when we last played there, no way they are top. The stunning cathedral alone, right in the centre, should elevate it.
Stoke was ten times more depressing.
Totally agree, walked from the train station to the ground and we all commented on the magnificent Cathedral and the town centre in general being excellent.

From our last away match there, Peterborough was pretty good!
Nice station, town centre had plenty going on. Don’t remember too many closed shops?

Also, the fact Aberdeen is up there make a mockery of the list.

There are no more closed shops in Peterborough than anywhere else to be fair.

On a par with Middlesbrough judging by what I saw on Tuesday.

When the shopping centre opened in the early 80s John Lewis was one of the main attractions. I’m told they had an exclusivity agreeement as well that none of their competitors could open in the centre.

It never reopened after Covid. And they’d spent millions given to them by the owners of the shopping centre on a refurb as well.

Not very altruistic of them was it ?

Looks like Worcester floods nearly every year but is not on the list! Must be depressing if you live there surely?

for some reason we stopped off in Hemel Hempstead a few years on the way to London. that town centre is as much of a ******** as stockton and boro are. utterly depressing and home to the 6 roundabouts in 1 roundabout debacle.

Living in Hull I am obviously not subjected to the downtrodden locations, I am very sympathetic though and hope these places are able to grow into a wonderful location like some of us enjoy.

Chatham fully deserves it's place on the list, Gillingham should be on there too. There are areas of London that should be on there, Croydon and Hounslow spring to mind straight away.

Obviously James Cleverly has been excluded from voting in this poll.

I am surprised some areas of the South are included. Looking at some of the photos of the Southern towns and cities and then thinking its £450k for a 3 bed semi to live in those places - while on Teesside its £160k with some nice Coast and Country - say 6 miles from where you live.
It's not really about property values. Its about your community living experience and one does not guarantee the other.
