That feels like a defeat

Agreed. So many positives from that 2nd half where we finally looked composed, they couldn't get near us for 38 minutes and then the keeper chucks one in.
Are we really simply blaming Glover and dismissing the horrendous defending (or lack of) which encouraged the pot shot?

Yes. Not saying the defending was good because it certainly wasn't but I think it's a bit silly to blame the "encouragement" of a shot rather than something that a National League keeper should be saving.

We definitely should have won that. I’ve not seen their goal back but it was a poor one to concede. We seemed to go to pieces defensively after that.

Think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

I thought we played well, and without dominating the game certainly controlled it for 80% of the time.

But if you had to neatly summise why we are mid table and not top 6, today was it. Didn't take the chances, and once again conceded a very, very bad goal. Happened too often this season.

It is what it is, we aren't going up this season 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

That game just sums up our home form this season. Some really good football at times. Created decent openings and chances but final pass / finish letting us down again.

More dropped points from a winning position,

We really miss pace in the front 4. Sorting out the top end of the pitch has got to be the priority next season. Greenwood isn’t the answer either.

These issues will plague our play off push I feel. We simply don’t have the firepower to kill teams. We should have been at least 2 up by the time they equalise.

Gutted with that all told. At least they didn’t nick all 3 points at the end.

I somehow manage to get less enthused by the Rogers deal every day. Selling him in the first place, bringing in absolutely nobody on deadline day, today seeing how much we just lack pace and creativity. Lost a chunk of our creativity losing Rogers, lost all our pace through injuries, none of it replaced.

We are a very average team this year. I think we just need to accept that. We will finish about where we are now.
I think we are a good team. But no matter how much we control games, play nice football if we can't score and concede bad goals time and time again......we aren't going to trouble the top 6.

But I'm relaxed about it. Have the likes of Azaz bed in, have a good summer transfer window and we go again.....give it a right go next season.

I think we will flirt with the playoffs for another month or so. Yet don't think we are anywhere near good enough to go up this season. I think that goes for well over half the champo. They will have spells and fail to be consistent.

It has the feeling as a bit of a transitional season. The summer recruitment has been very good on the whole. Young players who will be far better next season.

We are still in the mix. That's all we can do. Today was infuriating as they did nothing 2nd half.

I think it was a fair result, Glover part to blame, but it looked as though Carrick blamed Engel for getting drawn into the middle when he brought Thomas on straight after the goal.

It looks like it's becoming one of those transitional seasons really, which perhaps isn't that surprising given that we replaced most of the side at the start, then after they'd shown what they were capable of, we've been hit with the worst injury crisis I can remember in 40 odd years of following us. That has gone on for MONTHS.

This transition season is short of us going on a late run of course once we have a mainly fully fit squad (but when that's going to be is the big unknown, we seem to have 2 or 3 players get newly fu(ked for a longish layoff whenever we get a few back)

If we continue to be the Riverside Rehabilitation Unit for the Perpetually Infirm for the rest of the season then I'd expect us to finish about 9th. If we actually manage to put out most of our best side for 10 odd games then we can scrape the playoffs. Getting through them of course is another matter entirely.

Next season is more hopeful however. We haven't got as many loans to replace so should be able to hit the ground running for the first season in three. We should have the most energetic players in the league given that a huge part of them will have had months and months of rest, even before the summer break. We have all summer to find a forward or at least a right winger as cover for Jones so we can finally stop having to shove Marcus out there.

Given that we've banked the money for Rogers we should be able to have a decent poke in the market too. All in all, if we don't go up this year which is more likely then I feel a lot more positive about next (though if I were Carrick I'd still have them all sleeping in oxygen tents all summer!)
