Tesco

Don’t forget inflation. It cost £1.35! I tweeted them last night and received a quick response. I’m going to receive a money card in the post…probably for £1.35 but it’s the principle plus I was annoyed that there wasn’t a way to contact them directly other than to tweet!

Breaking news from Tesco….

Hi. When growing our Kale, we encourage our suppliers to use as little pesticides as possible. This is to allow the insects that are beneficial to help our crops thrive.

Our suppliers inspect and, where appropriate, wash the Kale at several stages throughout the growing and harvesting stages - unfortunately it seems that we failed to spot and remove this insect.

We’ve made our supplier aware of your complaint and they’ll do all they can to reduce the chance of this happening in the future and sent out a £10.00moneycard to your email address as a refund for this.

Thanks again for letting me know about this and I’m sorry for any upset caused.

I know a girl who experienced something similar a few years ago, I think it was a dead rodent in a box of cereal. She tried to get in touch with one of the big supermarkets (can't remember which one) and they didn't give a ****. She didn't want to do the whole social media thing but the reaction of the supermarkets changed her mind so she outed them on social media.

Her main reason for the complaint was because she didn't want young children to experience what had happened to her, the last thing you want is your five year old tipping out a dead mouse into his breakfast bowl.

But she got an absolute tonne of replies on social media, some of it supportive but also a lot of abuse.

Posting it online is usually the only way that a lot of companies care, on an individual level they don't care about you but they'll care about their public image. The young lady I mentioned was contacted by the supermarkets and offered money to remove her posts from social media. She was asking them to investigate why it had happened and how they could prevent it in the future but they didn't seem bothered by that.
