Terry Venables has died

RIP. Pulled us right out of the clarts when he came to the Boro.
I half recall someone on the old board creating some amusing lyrics 'celebrating' his arrival to be sung to the tune of Bohemian Rapsody.

He played for England at every level including amateur, as well as managing them which is unique. Coincidentally, it was 23 years yesterday since that Bradford City game that convinced Gibson that Bryan Robson needed 'help'.
Was it Gibson? I read something linked on here the other day that said it was robsons idea unless I am misremembering

Sad news, it’s been a month for it.
RIP Terry, a Dagenham Rolls Royce of a man, a cut above, certainly not a Dagenham Dustbin.

circa 1997 He bought Pompey for a Quid - ( in Clarkson Stig intro voice) - Some say..he was robbed.

Having said that he did get a new end built - before departing.
RIP Mr Venables

So so sad hes gone. Absolute legend of a manager and player.

We were certainly going down until he came in and got Paul Okon and Karembeu to play, and found an unlikely bargain bin hero in Dean Windass. We went from clueless to clued up very quickly.

He revolutionised English football with his Christmas trees and wing backs and players that could move and pass the ball. 1996, the best year of my life, have never had a night out like after the England holland game. So close to winning the euros.

Thanks for the memories, rest in peace Tel.

Seen him play against us for QPR in the early 1970s especially when we battered them.
A larger than life character like big Mal was, flamboyant I think the term is.
Grateful he saved us in when we seemed we were going to go down again, there were times in the season we couldn't buy a win.

RIP Mr Venables and thanks✌️

The stand out was enjoying a fabulous win at Newcastle, it had some moments, Bosics free kick was brilliant. I always enjoy tension in a game and especially hanging on to a lead, being 2 up it seemed everything was conspiring against us a, Stampy sent off, Solano penalty miss. It made up for the mauling at home.

A decent man with real skill and talent and a heart.
He did more than just a job for football and his passing will be felt by many.
RIP

Remember we beat Liverpool and Rafa said they should change his name to Lucky Venables.Happy days thanks for the memories Tel and thank you.

It was Gerard Houllier at Liverpool at that time.

He bit back though, and rightly so.

Definitely not Robbo‘s idea. After we played West Ham before Christmas a game we lost 1-0 I went to an MSS party in a pub near Kings Cross. Some of the team turned up together with Bryan Robson who had a face like thunder as he had just been told via a 3rd party that Venables was joining the management team. Stories were circulating that he was outside that pub trying to get hold of Gibbo on the phone
