Team for Tuesday then?

Who are out fullbacks to play a back four?

I don’t agree that Akpom’s made Forss decent on the right wing.

RB Depends whose fit. Smith would be first choice, then Dijsteel after that I’d rather play a kid than McNair, berg is okay there but not great, I’d rather he had a run at centre back alongside Lenihan.

LB again depends who is fit.

Forss for me just doesn’t look the same player without Akpom to play off, he just seems completely ineffective.

Is Forss going to be fit looked like he a big ice pack on the thigh when he came over to the fans at the end, hope he is fit as he had decent game yesterday

I think it is so hard to pick a best 11 personally the players that should be starting Fry, Howson, Hackney are just not performing IMO, whether that's trying to hard or having to do others jobs I don't know.

The full back positions are a disaster area. We put so much stock on Giles returning out of the goodness of his heart that the LB position isn't fixed, and injuries in both positions make us look weak. I mean, I'm sure Van Den Berg didn't expect to be shoved into RB and told to do his best.
Given that, I think the backline will be:

Dieng

McNair Fry Lenihan Van Den Berg

So the rest:

Hackney O'Brien (sorry Jonny but it looks like a season too far, or the pre-season injury has hampered him more than we know)

Jones McGree Silvera

Forss

We seem to have far too many "attacking midfielders" who can't score. Meanwhile we have no competition currently at CB, two and a half strikers (seeing as Forss has spent most of his time here as the flank player), don't want to pick our best midfielder despite he has to be here until at least January, and a lot of players who can turn in a decent 20 minute cameo from the bench then look terrible when they start the next week. And too many "for the future". I noticed Bryant Bilongo turned 21 last week. Is he really never going to start a game?

everyone keeps mentioning Fry , he was far better than Lenihan yesterday.

Doesn't matter who plays in midfield, whether it's a 2 or 3 the players we pick get overrun and very rarely win the midfield battle hence why we lose games of football IMO, we have tried barlaser, hackney, howson, mcgree,Crooks and O'brien as cm and we still lose the battle and don't control the game from this area, until we can win the battle in the middle of the park this will continue or do we literally have to play a back 5 that stays as a 5 with a midfield 3 and 2 up top, yes it won't be pretty but even in the highs of last year we constantly conceded cheap goals and we really need to start keeping clean sheets to give ourselves a chance of getting something from a game of football.

I know, I think overall Lenihan hasn't been great either or the stalwart championship defender I thought we had signed but Fry just doesn't look the same player as he was, is this because we are over playing and he isn't comfortable I don't know

Silvera is not strong enough for this league
Mcgree should be playing in midfield with Hackney then O’Brien as the cover
Jones should be up front with Latte and Forss
The defence is concerning though as we haven’t a fit right back and I think Smith is a plodder

I would go for
Dieng
Rav Fry. Lenihan A fit left back
Hackney O'Brien
Forss. Coburn. McGree
Lath

I think that's the best we have. No idea who will play left back. No idea if any of them are fit. Maybe Bilongo.

There would be some temptation to drop one of the two centre halves, and I’m edging towards Fry. Both of them were getting pulled all over the place yesterday.

Dieng

McNair
VDB
Lenihan
Engels (If he is fit and Bangura is injured)

Howson
O’Brien

Forss
Hackney
McGree

Lath

Fry was Pallister like yesterday at bringing the ball out and playing it. The problem is they are so exposed by the midfield. Howson needs dropping and now.

VDB doesn’t seem to make the right decision when on the field and his first thought seems to be to pass it back to our keeper
Looks a little timid for me.
Maybe he should be at Centre Half though

I’d personally like to see a fluid 343 with as many experienced Championship players as possible for now. McGree must start, Howson probably unlucky to miss out.

The system easily switches to 5-4-1 when we need to be solid. The two centre midfielders need to be far more disciplined to stay and support the defence when the wide players move forward.

……………… Dieng
….. McNair….. Fry….. Lenihan
Jones….. Hackney… O’Brien… Bangura
……. Forss….. Latte….. McGree

If we stick with 4 at the back, which I expect we will, I’d prefer McNair to partner Lenihan over Fry, he was there for much of our strong run last season.

It needs to be a consistent team and Carrick needs to stick with whoever he is going to pick in his 11 for a few games to build some understanding.

Players need to step up and do the ugly side of the game first, tackle, block, run and ultimately defend for our lives then when we have the ball relax and play but do the basics first.

One area we seem to be lacking is an out and out left sided player, could Engel play the attacking left mid role with Bangura behind him as Riley is not a wide man as such but I would like to see Jones play on the right with Dijksteel at RB when he's back fit and play 2 up top I.e. Forss and Lath or one of them with Coburn, for me the alleged 4231 set up doesn't get the best out of the squad of players we have as we don't have a 10 who can bring everything together so a formation change needs to be carried out, again just my opinion.

If you want to win the game:-

McGree dropping deep / floating

Subs to come on Forss up front, Howson for whoever is struggling in the middle, Silvera for Jones late

I've literally given Carrick the key to success here.. Michael if you read this, just think about it.

That's a top 8 starting 11 honestly.

If all are fit

When in trouble do what footballers know best Back to Basics 442

…………….Dieng

Smith Fry Lenihan Bangura

Jones Howson OBrien McGree

............Forss Coburn

Time for Hackney to sit alongside Carrick and listen to what he wants from his central midfielder.

Incidentally did anyone see Hackney for England U21's last week he played the exact role we need him to play for us sitting in front of back four. A sort of midfield sweeper, never got caught out of position once. So he can do it, would improve Fry and Lenihan massively as well if he could do that job successfully

Yes Hackney was outstanding as you say. We are asking him to do too much

Thought you'd have had your favourite player with his correct number (4) 😉

Seriously I don't mind giving it a go with most of that line up
