Team Againt Norwich

He did look out of sorts didn't he? I like Crooksy but a centre forward he is not, or one that leads the line at least and he certainly ain't going to replace Akpom.

I'd expect Archer to be back in, possibly McGree for Forss, possibly not.

It was interesting that Dijksteel was being readied to replace Smith, until the latter crossed for the first goal. He struggles against pace, but I still expect him to start.
Smith has been been brilliant for us but like lenihan has suffered from playing alongside McNair because McNair is an inferior defender and it means smith and lenihan have more to do to steady a creaky defence

When will Carrick come to his senses ?

What do you mean come to his senses? Do you mean drop some magic potion on Dael Fry so he can never be injured or poorly?

Why on earth would they need a "rest" - they're professional athletes / footballers FFS
You've angrily answered your own question. The reason players are rested is because they are professional athletes whose fitness levels, niggles, energy and recovery rates are measured in detail. They might want to play, the manager might want them to play - but if the computer says no......

I'm not sure Smith's lack of pace and awful positioning yesterday can be blamed on McNair.

The Fry v McNair thing has been done to death on here, but the truth is neither are good fit for Carricks prefered style of play.

You mean even though they get paid a lot their bodies aren’t able to keep going at the same level game in game out? I’m in shock. 😛

You just dont leave McGree out of this team. As Ive said, our win ratio was down to him being in the side
He would be one of the first names on the team sheet for me but you can understand why he dropped to the bench. He's played a lot of football recently and the air miles must have taken its toll on him.

One thing is very clear, that Carrick has real choices to make for his first eleven and even for the bench.
He has selection choices that are good problems to have.

Debates can be had around several positions, but we do have competition, or at least very decent cover for the Championship.

I probably agree, but that's not the reason why Smith was under par on Monday

Fry's injured anyway, so let's get behind Paddy when he plays.
Of course we get behind paddy if fry is injured (even if he isn’t) but if paddy isn’t doing it then we need to call it out.
Did you see my post explaining my theory about smith and lenihan and their performances and leadership qualities dropping off in the last few games ?
I do put it down to not having fry alongside them who is a pure defender (but most definitely can carry the ball out if need be) whereas paddy isn’t an instinctive defender who can sniff trouble as it’s brewing like fry can.
Smith and lenihan are both distracted by not having fry there and their leadership qualities have suffered because they are using energy on defensive aspects at the expense of their leadership qualities as they unconsciously are more cautious having paddy there instead of fry who everyone (including carrick) has to agree is the better defender by a stretch!

Don't agree with a lot if that, although I do agree that we're better with Fry when we don't have the ball and better with McNair when we do.

It's a balancing act and I'm not convinced even Carrick knows who is the better pick for him and the way he wants his team to play.

You have to play Ramsey, he will have a point to prove to Norwich for cutting short his loan spell.
He will be busting a gut to show them what they're missing.

Hmmmm….fry more than holds his own on the ball and offers much more ‘on and off the ball’ than McNair offers. Then there’s the height fry offers and the physical presence McNair can’t match.
A lot of subtleties whereby fry out scores McNair although McNair is a very good player fry just offers the ‘team’ a lot more
