Tav Against City

"For many years..."

And what were we?

I don't think of Bournemouth as Hartlepool at all, that's barmy. They're a premier league team with money and they've been far more successful than us. Players aren't signing for teams of 15 heads ago
‘Premier league team with money’ - that’s the summation of it and the two go together and is the reason in recent times they have been far more successful than us.

And what were we? If you check the records though I think you will find they need to spend another 60 odd years in the top division to match our history.

He just picked the wrong team it must have been money that madehim move they just look a average champ team that will take a hammering this year would you buy him back when they are on the way down by jan.
Maybe the chance to play games like today in front of 53000 at the Etihad might have had something to do with his decision ?

Yes.. he's 100% Prem Quality = looking entirely comfortable against the champions / fit enough / talented enough to look a threat against the best prem players .. Plus he was one of our better players against United/Spurs in the cup last season!

in my humble opinion there's absolutely ZERO evidence to suggest he's not a prem quality player! Do you disagree?
100 per cent - I would guess this will be his one and only season in the Prem - only time will tell!

Yes & we are the only team outside the top 4 to make a european final in the last 30 plus years.

City are on fire right now.
I wouldnt give anyone, other than Arsenal or Liverpool, a fighting chance against them.

I bet that Marten De Roon would score an equaliser for us deep into added time against them though;)

What do you think other clubs fans impressions of us is though? Doubt many see us as anything bigger or better than Palace, Brighton or Fulham.

Why would Boro be regarded as bigger or better - or even equal - to Palace or Bournemouth or Fulham or Brighton?

Those teams will have revenue of at least six times Boro's, a shopping list of good players that they can afford, worldwide exposure and home games against Liverpool and Man City and others and chances of cup runs in two competitions.

Boro are trying to balance the books by selling their best players, out of the League Cup, waiting for 4 or 5 key players to sign from bargain basements.

The big club Boro boat sailed four years ago.

I will stop arguing the point or this thread will never end just to say last that i wouldnt change steve gibson for all the tea in china.

Good luck to the lad. Never went missing for us, clearly a pro, who wants to test himself at the highest level. We’re already missing him sorely, but he’s a good egg, and deserves our respect

I'm assuming most of you are too young to remember when an upstart club from the north east upset a lot of established teams by throwing a lot of cash about due to their minted owner.
They were good times, but our top flight history goes back further than 1996.
We've been northern upstarts for a long long time, minted or otherwise.

Has all the attributes to be a top PL midfielder. Said it at the time and it's now being proven... we sold him far too cheap. 10 million is peanuts these days. Christ, we paid 8 million for Saville didn't we?

I think the good thing about Tav is his work rate and willingness to keep going doing the basics. A lot of the stuff he does doesn’t get seen by your every day fan, the running off the ball an tracking back that doesn’t lead to anything but has to be done. I think he’s probably a managers dream in that he’ll do whatever he’s told to do and do it well without kicking up a fuss. The footballing equivalent of a black an decker workmate. Haven’t forgotten that goal against the mackems Tav 😁👍🏻

Who'd have thought, Sunderland and Hull nailed on for promotion with Boro and Norwich needing to win next week or they face the drop.
Not sure about Hull. And I wouldn’t say nailed on for Sunderland but they will challenge.

Can’t see us or Norwich being in the relegation mix up personally.
