Tadej Pogacar

It’s an insult to all those people who have chronic asthma. Most of them would have just liked to enjoy P.E never mind become a “top” athlete.

I've actually just had a severe chest infection which exacerbated my asthma. Up until this infection I hadn't needed asthma medication for 39 years. Asthma isn't just the wheezy kid who never did sports at school any more, it covers a lot of breathing issues, including exercise induced asthma.
Plenty of footballers, Sammy Ameobi and Paul Scholes for example, have suffered from asthma and been able to compete in a very physical sport so it should come as no surprise that cyclists, who are cardiovascular machines, suffer from various forms of asthma.

I didn’t enjoy this, and have thoroughly enjoyed previous editions of the Strade Bianche.

I just don’t trust Pogacar’s performances. A 50km solo time trial in that context just seems ridiculous. Felt the same about Wout van Aert easily winning a time trial, a mountaintop finish on Mount Ventoux and then a sprint finish at the Tour last year, all coming during a pandemic where all global testing was pretty much suspended.

I don’t have enough knowledge of cycling history to explain why it doesn’t pass the sniff test for me but something doesn’t ring true with either of these, don’t feel like I’m watching a fair sport anymore. And it’s put me right off it, if I’m honest.

Pogacar goes in the Tirenno Adriatico stage race tomorrow. Lets see if he can keep his unbeaten record going.

I hope you didnt watch stage 1 of Paris-Nice then!

Like the food industry it depends who funded the research. Sometimes you just have to use your loaf when things don’t add up.

Just burnt everybody with a frightening burst of speed to win stage 4 of the T-A and consolidate his lead

I don't understand the point you are trying to make? it appears you are saying anyone who wins, and wins with style in different types of races must be doping??

I understand the cynicism due to cycling's past but at some point you've got to trust the authorities are doing their job or you will never be able to enjoy it again!
Without doubt people are cheating in cycling, so to be so far ahead does raise questions marks as you are ahead of dopers. The sport has a bad reputation, and I don’t think things like the Wiggins’s thing helped improve its reputation

It's been one cheat after another for the last 50 years, so no wonder people are sceptical. I love the sport, but there is always that nagging feeling in the background.

100% sure doping is rife in many sports. I am also sure the richer athletes have better masking regimes. Tennis and football prime examples.

You could argue that because cycling actively tries to find dopers they catch more.

Football, in comparison, hardly tests.
There are two ways of looking at it - agreed.

But the number of lauded winners in cycling that were subsequently caught out is huge. The subsequently part of that is important, and who here truly believes that the superstars that are doing really well in grand tours etc will not be disgraced / banned / humiliated at some point in the future?
