This guy at 23 is fast becoming a legend. He’s won the last two Tour de France and two monuments last season.

This season he has won his first two events. The UAE Tour and today’s Strade Bianche in which he rode away to crush the field.

Incredible.

No way. He got a bit lucky with that crash though which screwed the race for some of his top rivals, and he's the last person to need that sort of luck.Alaphillippe.jpg

He has a skill set not seen since Merckx, winning classics, tours (without the strongest team) AND wins with panache, attacks from distance, to win stages.

I very much doubt it. in The bad days of Armstrong saw an aggressive bullying culture amongst the riders. This guy seems to be a smiling assassin. I think we are witnessing a truly special talent.

And Lance Armstrong wasn't consistent throughout the season.

If Pogacar really is doping would he really do it during this part of the season when the rewards are lower?

All dopers of the past worked up to the Grand Tours and were rather inactive during other parts of the season… perhaps the reason why in the proven doping era, GC riders usually only peaked for those 3 weeks - particularly Armstrong.

Sometimes with drugs cheats it’s because they don’t get caught and quickly think they’ll never get caught.
Pogacar has never done Cyclo-cross……ooh look he wins his first ever race.
More importantly if you follow sport in general some things just don’t seem right. Plus he doth protest too much. There’s been raised eyebrows but not necessarily outright accusations, yet he comes out with the “ I’m the pretty boy next door I wouldn’t possibly take drugs”!! Not word for word but pretty much.

Pogacar was national champion in cyclocross in 2019. He has a good pedigree in the sport.

Merckx ( who I thought was great) was done for drugs
I don't understand the point you are trying to make? it appears you are saying anyone who wins, and wins with style in different types of races must be doping??

I understand the cynicism due to cycling's past but at some point you've got to trust the authorities are doing their job or you will never be able to enjoy it again!

I only ever once went out of my way to watch a race, that was a few years ago in Stokesley, it lasted less than 2 minutes.

I am not trying to be smart but how can he win with panache? Much prefer it over F1.

attacking from distance, winning stages in stage races whilst leading the GC rather than playing it safe. If you enjoy the nuances of cycling there is quite a few examples.

If you take some one like Wiggins, who won the TDF by having several highly capable riders rather joylessly time trial him up the key climbs, they are kike chalk and cheese

I really do enjoy it, it's a great TV sport. When the French crowd get within inches I know it's an accident waiting to happen.

I once read a book about Hoy, he came across as a great guy and funny. I realise that was the books job. However he mentioned pot bellied blokes in lycra, he thought they would be better off reducing distance and looking at the countryside.

I would like to think pogacar isn’t cheating and he is great to watch, but I don’t think riders are cheating as blatantly as in years gone by, like landis the day he rode away from everyone after the day before having a seriously bad day. Or the days of Lance and even Indurain they just never had bad days or there bad days were as good as other riders good days.

I think due to the biological passport the more frequent drug testing keeps the riders under the radar as in they micro dose but they are always micro dosing to not cause any spikes on the blood passport as it would stand out a mile. This is the reason for me the riders are good from March to September.

That’s the point, they’re not and, and that’s right across sport unfortunately. I include all countries in that too. I think with a lot of cyclists/athletes they’re not natural cheats but I think eventually it becomes more a case of if you can’t beat them join them. What’s more disheartening is because of the availability online drug abuse is rife in amateur sport as well.
