Sycamore Gap - Hadrian’s Wall - felled 😡🤬

Had a short in Holiday in Corbridge earlier in year (great little place) had never been to Hadrains wall before. Walked across from Housesteads Fort to the Sycamore Gap. So glad we did it now.

People now starting to post name and photos. Hope it is him because if it’s not it’s going to be tough being named and shamed if he didn’t do it.

A lot of trees have been cut down at Teesside Golf Club because of safety reasons (rotten inside). After a few years the stump survives and the tree keeps growing but looks more like a big bush.

Man in his 60s.

Sounds like it is the evicted tenant.
I see the Telegraph are on the case with the grudge against the National Trust angle. Expect industrial strength whataboutery invoking the lefty, woke National Trust to be incoming from the Torygraph.

Although the Acers will coppice. Chatting to a woodsman today, he said you don’t fell a mature tree to coppice, you would do it to a young tree.

Is this your photo?
Nah.. it’s doing the rounds on social media.

Nice idea who took it.

“A man who planted a sycamore sapling just metres away from the felled Sycamore Gap tree has said he did so to "try and restore people's faith in humanity."

Kieran Chapman, 27, from Westerhope in the west end of Newcastle, planted the tree on Friday night on protected land in Northumberland National Park. However, on Saturday afternoon, the National Trust confirmed that it would remove the tree due to Hadrian's Wall's status as a Scheduled Ancient Monument and UNESCO World Heritage site”

One utterly pointless and stupid act rapidly followed by another stupid act. Whilst I've no doubt the tree planters heart was in the right place his brain certainly wasn't.
Let those organisations with a direct responsibility for the location deal with the situation.
You think? Didn't stay anonymous long did they?

Has "me me me" written all over it.

“Daniel Graham, 38, and Adam Carruthers, 31, both from Cumbria, have been charged with criminal damage both to the tree and to the adjacent Hadrian's Wall.”
