Sweden reject VAR

They didn't reject lock down they had milder measures - who had greater deaths Sweden or the UK?

As there are so many different factors which affect two very different countries it's hard to make a direct comparison.
A better comparison is Sweden's neighbours Norway, who had very strict rules regarding socialising during covid. Sweden had nearly 3 times as many deaths per population as Norway did.

VAR is not the problem - it's officials trying to make, every, decision 'perfect' it needs to be there for just the howlers & no more than 30 seconds for pen decisions..

It's just been implemented - REALLY - badly..

offsides should be - way obvious, like Leeds v us.. not like by the mm - MU v Cov = onside.. pens should be decided within 30 sec & no pitch side review, off-field ref says you've dropped a big one & overturns it..

players diving: off field ref reviews & players given yellows when play stops if they think it's a dive ( players can say: no pen = no review needed, if they fall over or feign a particularly low quality dive )

maybe give managers 1 review a half..

I like the automated systems: goal line tech.. if more can be automated esp offsides then better for the game..

& #1 stadium crowd needs to be informed - mic up the refs.. & stop TV commentators apologising for 'any rude words' Tristan may have heard..

I think the fans, whipped up by the media, do demand that every decision is perfect, not the officials.

If VAR, somehow, found a way of getting every offside, handball and penalty decision right, the media aren't going to stop discussing questionable decisions. The debate just moves on to "was it really a throw in?" in the build up. There are hours of football broadcasting to fill, and they're not going to stop discussing officiating just because some decisions are right.

To me, VAR just makes football less enjoyable. I admit I've not been to a live VAR match as yet, but I expect the experience to deepen my feeling, not dissipate it. I think the Swedes have just remembered the game, first and foremost, is about enjoyment.

VAR has been implemented really badly. They've tried using it in football. Should be used in stuff like horse jumping which is **** anyway.

No matter how well it's used it always **** up the goal. And the goal is the best thing about football so you don't want to be F***ing with it.

Excellent post and pretty much echoes my thoughts, anything that takes longer than a
minute is definitely not clear and obvious

Yes, the only VAR I would consider acceptable is one with a time limit. Can't make up your mind after watching ten times from six different views? Then STFU and let the ref decide.
