Surviving 911

BBC2 tonight. Crikey, harrowing and incredibly moving in equal measure. Still packs a massive emotional punch 20 years later.

A truly heart breaking documentary, some fascinating and remarkable stories. Still a very difficult watch for Mrs Fufkin, brings the horror of that day back to focus as with any 9/11 footage and stories

She's fine most of the time but I think that sort of thing scars you and has an impact. She wasn't injured or anything like that thankfully, but it does trouble her seeing footage, I think it troubles most people even if not there, certain scenes certainly trouble me. Took over 10 years to get her to visit the memorial and it really freaked her out spotting herself in one of the photos

Those old enough will always remember where they were and what they were doing that day.

Artie - Sorry your Missus has first hand experience.

This message board for all the moaning about non football threads was the single best source of staying up to date with the events of that day if you had no access to a TV or even for updates from folks in the USA. Hard to think that only 20 years ago major sites would be so overwhelmed due to data demands.

I spend a weird 24 hours trying to track down a mate who a couple of weeks before had been moaning about having to fly Boston to LA every week for 2 days of meetings. Contacted his wife who said not this week he was in NYC for a meeting at the WTC and she couldn't get hold of him on his cell. Happy ending though as he was actually having a coffee outside & saw the planes flying over his head. But the image has stayed with him though and he cant watch any of these types of programmes.

We won't watch either - it just brings it back. Never visited the memorial either, although been past WTC often enough since.

Can't believe it's 20 years nearly. One of those rare 'remember where you were' moments in life, in terms of things that didn't directly affect you.

Interesting programme - lots of new footage and photos - emotionally difficult to watch in parts be warned.
