what? Surely it goes to the person who lives there (tennant). not the home owner? He's not as clever a politician as he thinks he is, clearly.
It must be really obvious that the multi-house owner issue would be something from the very start of this.
He could've just lied and said that the majority of that money was so landlords didn't need to put up rents for their tenants.

He doesn't need it because he'll claim expenses for it anyway. Either way the rising prices don't affect people like him.Yes it does. But I think the problem is with people like Rishi who have 2-3 homes that aren't rented out. If you have a 2nd home for personal use you don't need £800 from the Government to pay for your energy bills.

She was very good with her retort to that though saying he was being charitable with other people's money. That was bang on point. That's the problem, he'll get it automatically. But he's giving it to Charity. Which charity we'll never know - probably some private school with a dodgy charitable status.
Agreed but HMRC takes seconds to take money off people when they've claimed too much. I'm sure it wouldn't be beyond them to have a system online where above a certain salary/income the payment is reclaimed.I am no fan of sunaks but if the mechanism isn't there to sort the needy from others then it isn't the cost to implement this but the time it may take to implement. Government software programs run into years not months.
No one would be happy delaying payments until next year.
That might be a working solution. So long s everybody was made aware that it could be reclaimed in next years tax bill and under what circumstances.Agreed but HMRC takes seconds to take money off people when they've claimed too much. Income isn't the same as wealth so the wealthy with several houses but no jobs might still be eligible.Agreed but HMRC takes seconds to take money off people when they've claimed too much. He and his wife are worth in the region of £730 MILLION.
How the **** do we get to a situation where ordinary people believe he’s best placed to represent them and dictate their lives, in financial terms? It’s just mental.
