Steward yesterday at leeds

I am sorry to hear of your situation and hope you make a good recovery.

I can understand why the steward's comments were upsetting and hurtful.
They were crass and thoughtles, but I do feel it is important to realise he wasn't making fun of your medical condition.

His attempt at getting a cheap laugh out of your appearance wasn't big and wasn't clever but I would hope he wasn't trying to be as hurtful as he turned out to be.
I did think that at the time to be fair, I thought it was just really snide and pathetic. Person walks passed with shaved hair "he should go to turkey" under his breath. I got really annoyed cos he said about patchy hair not the chemo, although i am really sensitive about it. Imagine if someone had achne sort of thing. It's the complete ar£& hole thing to say. Especially when you've moved a few yards away, real brave

It's one of those things really. Someone behaves like an idiot. I'm pretty good with conflict so confonted him, his ar%& fell out, my wife complained. Didn't end in anything more, the world keeps turning. Some people aren't so good with conflict so really we just safer environments at football. I thought the atmosphere yesterday was grest. Good banter, both noisy fans. Fans out of the ground nice. what holes do these goblins sprout from to put a bad taste in your mouth?

Absolutely disgusting.

I think a lot of this comes down to a culture of "banter" - many football fans still enjoy the game more from goading opposition fans.

Dunk got sent off last week for calling the ref bald. I've heard bald **** shouted hundreds of times from stands - you never know why someone is bald.

I'll be honest I'd prefer a more sterile atmosphere in exchange for less banter - but suspect I'm not the majority. I enjoy other sports where fans sit together and there is no animosity.

I love a chant, a sing and the odd shout at the players on the pitch. I can live without chants about poverty against scousers, homophobic chants against cockneys and Brighton. And anyone's nationality/appearance being used.

I teach comedy classes and make a point that someone's identity should not be the punchline of a joke as the first thing I say each week.

Hope you hear something off Leeds.
That's exactly it. It's just not funny. I'm not so bothered that he said something and it's cos I'm going through chemo. Imagine getting a big mac and your walk away and staff mutters fat cnut. How many people would be fuming.

Where do you teach comedy, that's really interesting. Is it round here? Think there could be some work for you in West Yorkshire if not

When we get searched and we take our hats off, standard, the steward made a comment about my hair as I walked away. He said he needs to go to Turkey get his hair done. I'm having chemo so my hair is patchy growing back. I confronted him, let's say politely, let's say like the perfect gentlemen. My wife emailed the club to complain pretty much minutes after it happened. Football is going in a really negative direction. I did point out that he had a phallus growing out his cranium, which I thought was unusual. Ultimately though, my issue is that the complaint will go nowhere, and if it got even slightly more aggressive with me and the steward it would undoubtably be me in trouble with police. What is the answer to stop the kind of rubbish. I've complained to people before about violence racism etc it just goes no where.
Sorry to hear about that. ***** banter.. glad to hear his asre went when you confronted him.

Hopefully it’s the sort of thing that haunts him and maybe it teaches him a bit of a lesson.. maybe he will be a bit less of a chunt.

Here is a list of all Supporter Liaison Officers in EFL
Though I note Leeds seemed to have a vacancy for their post in October.

Appreciate you're busy Rob but it would be good if you could facilitate Perfecthatrick's complaint being made. Help him through the process 🙏

Tbh I was wondering if another way might be more effective, like Instagram or something the like. I mean I wouldn't know what to do to with that as I can't see how it can't be anything but negative. The whole thing was a real shame really because we had a brilliant time otherwise, great game of football, nice atmosphere and spoke to some lovely leeds fans. I mean bad result and all defenders are now out but you know rough with the smooth
I’d be careful posting on the socials, you’ll get the usual trolls trying to be edgy with their replies…

Not saying don’t do it, but it can get nasty…

Out of interest What did the steward say when you confronted them?

Obviously their are reasons the 'quip' was particularly emotive but the guard didn't know that. Not until the OP put him in his place anyway (fair play for that btw, hopefully he thinks twice next time).
But let's have a bit of balance before we try and get him the sack.

Bald people, comb-overs, mullets, wigs, bad hair days, bad dye jobs....all have been subject to wise cracks or smartar$e comments.

In fact there is a thread on this board which appears to be making fun of Bamford's hair. And Roofie includes Foden's hair into that thread for added hilarity. At the time I reckon that is what the security guy thought he was doing, commenting on someone's hair trying to be funny.

For the OP...Good luck with the treatment, I hope it is successful and you fully recover 👍

Shame's on him. I think you will always find people like him saying something derogatory just within earshot behind your back and when challenged usually deflect with just banter/joking. It's not funny never is. I am just grateful I don't know people like him not in my family or among my friends. He appears to be an adult who hasn't grown up and trying to be funny in front of his colleague. Kudos to you for keeping your cool.

No I wouldn't really do it. For one don't know how to use insta properly and have deleted my Facebook account. I'm just sort of spit balling as I really don't think complaining does anything of real substance.
When I turned round I said "what did you say" "nowt" yeah you did you said I should have gone to to turkey get my hair done" "no I didnt" yeah you did I heard you [insert cheeky.......]" " no I was talking to him ( points at another steward with a large haircut and volumous hair cut" then without getting too aggressive I said I'm having chemotherapy my hair is falling out. This was the bit that really got on my nerves, he went what's chemotherapy.

I'm big enough and ugly enough to handle things like this, and if some pathetic idiot can make his opinion when I'm ten yards away and then fold like a deck of cards, then I can make mine. The problem is not every is this confident confronting people and there is no platform to complain. Not sure who said it but these stewards are there to keep us safe not discrimination against protected charatistics.

It's very difficult to have a rational argument when you're up against complete stupidity.

Like NorthumberlandBoro said, you cant argue with stupidity, but you can challenge them by being "assertive", making them feel uncomfortable with some polite and particularly expansive use of the English language. A cool demeanour often surprises them as they expect aggression and foul language. Over the years I`ve perfected it....as you might imagine. Too many, for too long have put up with ignorance and prejudice.

Daily life shouldnt have to be a battle against ignorance, but frustration against it has to come out somewhere, otherwise we internalise it and become sad and depressed.

Anyway PERFECTHATRICK I hope the Chemotherapy works out best for you and hope you have a Happy Christmas and New Year. It might help if we call down a mine shaft and find a football team for all the injured, banned and suspended! That might cheer us up.

Up The Mighty Boro

Tbh honest Paddy going off injured was a blessing. We are going to have to be very creative with defenders now though. Any fmttm'ers good in defence?
