Steward yesterday at leeds

When we get searched and we take our hats off, standard, the steward made a comment about my hair as I walked away. He said he needs to go to Turkey get his hair done. I'm having chemo so my hair is patchy growing back. I confronted him, let's say politely, let's say like the perfect gentlemen. My wife emailed the club to complain pretty much minutes after it happened. Football is going in a really negative direction. I did point out that he had a phallus growing out his cranium, which I thought was unusual. Ultimately though, my issue is that the complaint will go nowhere, and if it got even slightly more aggressive with me and the steward it would undoubtably be me in trouble with police. What is the answer to stop the kind of rubbish. I've complained to people before about violence racism etc it just goes no where.

Clubs bring in agency workers as stewards, some clubs bring in completely outside companies to run operations with them. The workforces can often be totally unsuited to football. This should not be an excuse of course.

I would write a complaint to Leeds Football Liaison Officer - you should find their contact on Leeds official website - you could also contact Boro Supporter Services as well - Supporter Services - supporters@mfc.co.uk

Sorry to hear that mate. That is completely unacceptable.

Already done. My wife wrote one just after it happened , I'd be very surprised if we even got an email back.

Tbh I was wondering if another way might be more effective, like Instagram or something the like. I mean I wouldn't know what to do to with that as I can't see how it can't be anything but negative. The whole thing was a real shame really because we had a brilliant time otherwise, great game of football, nice atmosphere and spoke to some lovely leeds fans. I mean bad result and all defenders are now out but you know rough with the smooth

First of all, I would like to say I am sorry to hear you have needed chemo and hope you make a full recovery.

Secondly, to avoid idiots like this in life you would need to lock yourself in a cupboard and avoid going out at all. 1finny mentions in his post coming up against two idiots after a comment regarding his scarf. Unfortunately, the world is full of idiots.

Disgusting.
If it happens again [as it probably will] take a camera shot and get him shopped or sacked.
Unfortunately, many people ["who arent like us"] - with unseen physical and medical conditions get insulted, mocked and have the pzz taken out of them by complete w*****s. A*****s like him shouldnt be given a job anything to do with "safety". Because "Stewards" are mostly doing "bank" and part-time jobs, private companies want the profit and drag in the dreggs. Most of our stewards at Boro are ok. The regulars say "hello" and we know them - like they know us. We dont have to put up with people like that.
I had a steward once who asked for my ticket at an event and he said "you dont look disabled". I replied instantly "you dont look ignorant". That pzzd him off and I spoke to the Senior Steward. Its not on, but unfortunately its not something thats going to go away.

Not even sure why they bother with searches. They feel objects that could potentially be flares etc but don't bother looking at them.
Just feels like they go through the motions.

Bang on.

Ita daft, no where near a proper search. Stewards inside the stadium were idiots as well. I didn't even realise leeds had a corner for their first goal because one steward refused yo sit down, same for their second, couldn't have told you have it went in until I watched the highlights. I know a lot of them do it for little bit of cash on the weekend, but surely they need some kind of training.

I wonder what its like for away fans at the riverside the Riverside. You're right the most infuriating part is that they are actually there to keep us safe

I've had some excellent experiences with stewards at the Riverside. I actually had a seizure in the clothes at the club shop, where I was hardly visible. Some bloke clocked me and got a steward. (If that man and the steward are reading this I am very grateful, and I think you are very lovely people).

You should do. They are actually sometimes supporters appointments. But that does not mean it goes further than that.
Safety Officer would be responsible for stewards I think. Whether they reply I don't know.

I've heard some very complimentary feedback about our stewards from away fans in the past.

I am sorry to hear of your situation and hope you make a good recovery.

I can understand why the steward's comments were upsetting and hurtful.
They were crass and thoughtles, but I do feel it is important to realise he wasn't making fun of your medical condition.

His attempt at getting a cheap laugh out of your appearance wasn't big and wasn't clever but I would hope he wasn't trying to be as hurtful as he turned out to be.

Absolutely disgusting.

I think a lot of this comes down to a culture of "banter" - many football fans still enjoy the game more from goading opposition fans.

Dunk got sent off last week for calling the ref bald. I've heard bald **** shouted hundreds of times from stands - you never know why someone is bald.

I'll be honest I'd prefer a more sterile atmosphere in exchange for less banter - but suspect I'm not the majority. I enjoy other sports where fans sit together and there is no animosity.

I love a chant, a sing and the odd shout at the players on the pitch. I can live without chants about poverty against scousers, homophobic chants against cockneys and Brighton. And anyone's nationality/appearance being used.

I teach comedy classes and make a point that someone's identity should not be the punchline of a joke as the first thing I say each week.

Hope you hear something off Leeds.
